Job description

The Community Educator is responsible for providing educational instruction to assist childbearing families at Crouse Hospital. This is enacted through the roles of teacher, facilitator and resource person. The Community Educator needs to be a Licensed Massage Therapist.

Pay Range: $25.44 - $35.46/ hour (based on experience)

Per Diem

Community Educator Position Responsibilities:

  • Commits to a customer service oriented culture within their area which includes service orientation to work processes, staff customer service and actively participates and supports development of key customer service outcomes.
  • Implements teaching strategies to facilitate learning and informed decision-making for families anticipating birth and parenting.
  • Collects data related to the educational needs of the learner throughout the series and evaluates and discusses with educational coordinator and staff.
  • Communicates clearly the objectives and goals of the Childbirth Education Program and provides education based on the scientific principles.
  • Demonstrates skill and knowledge using a variety of teaching strategies to facilitate group process/discussion and independent learning.
  • Attends staff meetings on a regular basis to give input related to ongoing evaluation and program development.
  • Participates in continuing education programs to promote professional development and current knowledge in maternal/child health education.
  • Assumes other duties as assigned by department leadership.

Requirements:

  • Required: High School diploma or equivalent required.
  • Licensed Massage Therapist
  • Preferred: Bachelor’s Degree preferred.
  • Current CPR certification.
  • NCC, PCE, ICEA or Lamaze certification preferred (or certification based on specialty program)
  • Recent experience working with pregnant and parenting families with emphasis on patient education.
  • Demonstrated competency in the teaching/learning process.
