Position Overview

The Illinois Center for Rehabilitation and Education-Roosevelt (ICRE-R) is seeking to hire an educator to provide classroom instruction to students with physical, cognitive, and neurological disabilities at the post-secondary level in the transition education program. We strive to provide transition services including independent living, post-secondary education, vocational training, advocacy, community participation and services to assist students with disabilities in achieving the highest level of independence in community living and employment.

Essential Functions
  • Serves as an Educator for the Illinois Center for Rehabilitation and Education - Roosevelt (ICRE-R).
  • Works with each student at his/her functional level.
  • Develops lessons plans, student Individualized Education Program (IEP)'s, and transition plans.
  • Provides assemblies, social events, and community outings such as field trips and contacts with local organizations and agencies who work with students with disabilities.
  • Participates in multi-disciplinary conferences, in-service trainings, IEP meetings, annual reviews, and student/guardian case management meetings.
  • Maintains discipline in school area, initiates behavior modification and assists with transportation and escorting of students.
  • Performs other duties as assigned or required which are reasonably within the scope of the duties enumerated above.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Requires possession of a current and valid ISBE-issued Professional Educator License with Learning Behavior Specialist I endorsement.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Three (3) years of professional experience in high school transition programs.
  • Three (3) years of professional experience utilizing behavior modification principles.
  • Three (3) years of professional experience preparing written documentation related to student performance and education.
  • Three (3) years of professional experience evaluating the student, to select behavioral objectives to meet the student's needs, and to guide and to direct facility staff regarding the necessary training and educational development of a student.
  • Three (3) years of professional experience communicating with, and instructing, students with physical and/or intellectual disabilities.
  • One (1) year of professional experience communicating with, and instructing, adult students of all levels of competence.
Conditions of Employment
  • Requires ability to pass the IDHS background check.
  • Requires ability to pass a drug screen for drugs prohibited from recreational use under Illinois Law.
