GENERAL OVERVIEW:

Educates expectant and new parents in all aspects of birth preparation and new born care.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Teaches classes based on evidenced-based practice. (50%)
  • Contributes to the development of OB education programs. (20%)
  • Participates in marketing activities related to OB education and lactation services. (15%)
  • Contributes to achievement of divisional and organization goals. (15%)
  • Performs other duties as assigned or required

QUALIFICATIONS:

Minimum

  • Certification or actively pursuing certification as childbirth educator through a nationally recognized organization. Certification must be obtained within 1 year. Acceptable certifications include Lamaze International (LCCE) - Lamaze Certified Childbirth Educator, International Childbirth Education Association (ICEA) - Professional Childbirth Educator Certification, Childbirth International (CBI) - Certified Childbirth Educator, Prepared Childbirth Educators (CCE) - Childbirth Educator, Childbirth and Postpartum Professional Association (CAPPA) - Certified Childbirth Educator
  • Act 34 Criminal Background Clearance Certificate
  • Act 33 Child Abuse Clearance Certificate
  • Act 73 FBI Fingerprinting Criminal Background Clearance Certificate

Preferred

  • BA/BS Degree
  • Registered Nurse RN
  • 3 years' recent experience in childbirth education
  • CPR Instructor certification if teaching CPR
