Job Description:
At Regions, the Mainframe Systems Engineer installs and maintains mainframe operating systems ensuring the stability, performance and security of our mainframe environment while driving innovation and continuous improvement.
Primary Responsibilities
  • Evaluates system specifications, input/output processes, and working parameters for hardware/software compatibility
  • Troubleshoots and resolves complex technical issues related to mainframe systems and applications
  • Administers, configures, and maintains mainframe systems, including hardware, operating systems, and software components
  • Maintains operational effectiveness and efficiency by monitoring, evaluating, and adjusting mainframe operating systems
  • Maintains quality service by establishing and enforcing organization standards
  • Maintains installation records by documenting system configurations, procedures, and best practices
  • Resolves problems by determining cause, providing technical assistance to applications and other support staff
  • Develops and implements backup and disaster recovery strategies to ensure business continuity
  • Covers on call 24x7 on a rotating basis for problem resolution and SEV1 incidents
  • Ensures compliance with risk management programs, rules and regulations, and cybersecurity practices; identifies opportunities for and supports process improvements; applies disciplined change management practices

This position is exempt from timekeeping requirements under the Fair Labor Standards Act and is not eligible for overtime pay.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Business, or a related field and six (6) years of mainframe infrastructure technical software and hardware analysis, programming, and installation experience
  • Or High School Diploma or GED with ten (10) years of experience of mainframe infrastructure technical software and hardware analysis, programming, and installation
  • Experience in installation and support of Mainframe system products including ZOS, CICS, MQ, DB2, Storage, Automation, ZLINUX or Networking
  • Experience in problem determination, installation and support of mainframe products, disaster recovery experience and knowledge, and performance and tuning experience
  • Experience in opening, managing, solving, and closing problems with vendor support centers

We are seeking a Senior z/OS Systems Programmer to install, configure, and maintain IBM System Automation and IBM Z NetView. You will design automation policies, develop rexx automation scripts, and ensure high availability of our mainframe infrastructure.
Key Responsibilities
  • Infrastructure Automation: Design, code, and maintain IBM System Automation policies.
  • System Monitoring: Configure IBM System Automation to actively monitor system tasks and processes, generating alerts for potential issues.
  • Software Management: Install, patch, and upgrade z/OS automation software using SMP/E.
  • Scripting & Development: Write and debug complex NetView REXX scripts and command lists, including timers and message event automation.
  • Disaster Recovery: Maintain and test automation procedures for system IPLs and DR events.
  • On-Call Support: Provide technical troubleshooting for mainframe automation and network alerts.

Preferred Technical Skills
  • Core Automation: Expert knowledge of IBM System Automation for z/OS.
  • Network Management: Deep experience with IBM Z NetView and NetView REXX.
  • Mainframe Systems: Strong proficiency in z/OS concepts, JES2, TSO, and ISPF. General knowledge of GDPS, CICS, RACF, DB2, System IPL will be helpful.
  • System Maintenance: Hands-on experience with SMP/E for software installation.
  • Problem Determination: Mastery of Netlog, dump analysis, and z/OS system logs.

The target information listed below is based on the Metropolitan Statistical Area Market Range for where the position is located and level of the position.
