The IBM Architect plays a critical role in designing, implementing, and operationalizing IBM Power Systems & PowerVS environments supporting Lightedge's enterprise and customer IBM AIX & IBM I workloads. Understanding of and ensuring alignment with infrastructure best practices, security standards, and operational requirements is key.
 
The ideal candidate brings deep expertise in IBM Power platforms, virtualization (PowerVM, VIOS), and related storage/network (FlashSystem/ Fibre Channel) integration, paired with strong architectural thinking and the ability to support complex, mission-critical systems.
Responsibilities
IBM Power Architecture:
  • Design, architect, and develop maintenance guidelines for IBM Power Systems environments, following industry and vendor best practices.
PowerVS Operationalization:
  • Develop, deploy, and provide for administration around IBM Power Virtual Server (PowerVS) environments, ensuring scalability, availability, and performance.
Operating System Architecture:
  • Architect IBM AIX and IBM i deployments, including supporting system builds, upgrades, performance tuning, and lifecycle management.
Infrastructure Integration:
  • Design and support integration with POWER hardware, Fibre Channel networking, and enterprise storage (FlashSystem, Pure Storage) systems to ensure reliable and high-throughput connectivity. Ensure secure and performant backup procedures utilizing BRMS & FSFC on VTL-backed infrastructure.
Virtualization & Management:
  • Architect PowerVM, VIOS, and PowerVC tooling to manage virtualized IBM Power environments efficiently. Utilizing HMC, vHMC, and PowerCMC as integral management componens is a must.
Operational Support:
  • Serve as top escalation contact for implemented architectures, recognizing that all Operations personnel are ultimately responsible for ensuring a great client experience.
Cyber Resilience:
  • Ensure IBM environments are designed for security, resilience, and rapid recovery in the event of cyber incidents or system outages. Experience configuring and utilizing PowerHA, DB2 Mirror, and LPM preferred.
Documentation & Standards:
  • Maintain architecture diagrams, system documentation, and operational standards to support governance, audits, and knowledge sharing. Ensure Automation is in-place supporting repeatable, consistent deployments.
Cross-Functional Collaboration:
  • Work closely with infrastructure, networking, automation, storage, security, and operations teams to ensure consistent, secure, and supportable solutions.
Sales & Customer Support:
  • Assist the Sales team as an IBM Power subject-matter expert during customer engagements and solution design discussions when needed.
Education and Experience
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or equivalent experience
  • 10+ years of hands-on experience with IBM Power Systems environments
  • Proven experience developing and administering IBM PowerVS environments
  • Strong expertise with IBM AIX and IBM i architecture and administration
  • Experience with POWER hardware, Fibre Channel networking, and enterprise storage
  • Hands-on experience administering PowerVC
  • Strong troubleshooting, documentation, and communication skills
