Job description

Shift - Flex time 7:00am-8:30am. 7:00am-3:30pm; 7:30am-4:00pm; 8:00am-4:30pm; 8:30am-5:00pm M-F. Shift bidding process based on seniority. 

Site/Location: Detroit, MI

Develops and coordinates all computer schedules to ensure accurate, efficient, and timely production job processing across all processing platforms within Operations Center. Conducts in-depth analysis on all scheduling failures and responds accordingly to correct the failure and ensure plans are in place to prevent reoccurrence. Performs impact analysis on potential scheduling changes and makes improvements where applicable.

  • Manages batch job schedules and calendars for all application systems to ensure timely processing and compliance with quality control standards.
  • Reviews production results to determine accuracy of schedules and successful job/task/event completion.
  • Creates and updates production schedules across a multi-platform environment for a 24x7 operation. Acts as the liaison for establishing priorities in application processing. 
  • Implements new procedures and techniques to improve overall efficiency of Data Center Services and ensures that they conform to standards.
  • Ensures problem tickets are assigned, reported and resolved on a daily basis.
  • Maintains expertise in IBM JCL, Logic, CA-7/CA-11, TSO/ISPF, Tivoli Workload Scheduler, UNIX and Windows based navigation and detailed usage, and all other tools, utilities, etc.
  • Creates Summary and Matrix reports as required relative to daily activity and rates of success.
  • Manages Mainframe Exception Plans, Computer Operations Work Orders, Daily Turnover Notes and Infrastructure Change Control task across the enterprise.
  • Designs and builds schedules for Business Recovery including processing and testing.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • High school graduate or GED equivalent is required.
  • Twenty-four (24) months' work experience as a Data Center - Computer Operator (job code J511A) in the department.
  • Must demonstrate knowledge, proficiency and performance with all scheduling tools used across a multi-platform environment.
  • Two (2) years of college or four (4) years equivalent work experience in IT, on mainframe and client server platforms. 
  • Extensive knowledge of IBM JCL, CA-7/CA-11, TSO/ISPF, Tivoli Workload Scheduler, UNIX and Windows based navigation and detailed usage, and all other tools, utilities, etc.
  • Working knowledge of programming concepts within the mainframe and distributed environments, UNIX, WORD, EXCEL, EOS, IMS, DB2, NDM, FTP, SFTP, JES2, and all other tools, utilities, etc. 
  • Demonstrated strong communication skills. 
  • Arithmetic abilities to prepare, balance, and analyze reports.
  • Other related skills and/or abilities may be required to perform this job.
