Job description

Vision for the Role: A Hume Lake Christian Camps water/wastewater plant operator is responsible for following established directives and training from the Chief Plant Operator and Supervisors in both the water and wastewater plants, providing high quality drinking water, and ensuring proper disposal of waste. This is an entry-level treatment operator position, with opportunity to be trained.

The Role:
Responsible for following established directives and training from the Chief Plant Operators in both water and wastewater treatment plants by:
  • Plant operation, plant monitoring, sampling, record keeping, service, and repair
  • Maintaining sanitation of water through pipes to buildings and facilities
Provide good, clear, sanitized, effluent and dry sludge (bio solids) by:
  • Plant monitoring, record keeping, service, and repairs
  • Pulling sludge from plant to drying fields
  • Daily walk through of plant evaporation ponds, spray fields, and sludge drying fields

Manage distribution system and collection system by:
  • Drinking water line/leak repairs, flushing, hydrant testing, valve exercising/replacement
  • Wastewater collection
  • Perform new/repair projects on plant, facilities, lines, lift stations etc.
Use the following equipment: back-hoe; skid steer; dump truck, basic & reaching forklift, compactor, jack hammer, hand tools, power tools, large air compressors, etc.

  • Evidenced commitment to Jesus Christ and a desire to share the Gospel with others.
  • Must agree with Hume Lake's Statement of Belief and be willing to abide by Hume Lake's Code of Conduct.
  • Must be able to live in Hume Lake housing or provide private accommodations conducive to guests and conference needs.
  • High School Graduate or higher.
  • Strong work ethic and mechanical skills needed.
  • Must possess a valid California State Certification in one or more of the following areas: Wastewater Treatment, Water Treatment, Water Distribution.
    (Minimum Grade 1 level required; higher grades preferred. Candidates without current certification may be considered if eligible to obtain certification within 12 months of hire.)

Physical Requirements
  • The staff member must regularly lift and/or move up to 50 pounds and occasionally lift/or move up to 100 pounds.
  • Must be able to stand for extended periods of time.
  • Must be able to live in extreme weather conditions.
  • Must be able to live at high altitude.
