Vision for the Role: The Grounds Department Coordinator at Hume Christian Camps plays a key role in maintaining the beauty, functionality, and safety of the camp's outdoor spaces. This hands-on leadership role includes scheduling and supervising grounds crew members, coordinating landscaping projects, and ensuring that all outdoor areas reflect the excellence and hospitality central to Hume's mission. The Role: Operational Leadership
  • Assist in the planning, scheduling, and execution of daily grounds operations and seasonal projects
  • Lead by example in the care of lawns, trees, irrigation, pathways, signage, and general landscape maintenance
  • Operate and train others in the use of landscaping equipment and tools, including mowers, trimmers, tractors, and utility vehicles
  • Monitor supply levels and assist in ordering materials as needed
  • Coordinate and participate in seasonal snow removal operations including plowing, shoveling, sanding, and salting roadways, paths, and facility access points
Team Development
  • Provide direction and supervision to seasonal and year-round grounds crew members
  • Help onboard, train, and mentor new staff and volunteers
  • Promote teamwork, safety, and a strong work ethic within the department
Stewardship & Safety
  • Maintain high standards for stewardship of camp property and resources
  • Ensure that all equipment is operated safely and maintained properly
  • Report hazards and maintenance needs promptly
  • Assist in preparing for and responding to weather-related events and emergencies
Guest Support
  • Collaborate with other departments to ensure outdoor spaces are prepared for guest groups, programs, and events
  • Serve with a guest-first mindset, ensuring campgrounds are clean, welcoming, and safe.
Other
  • Perform other related duties and assignments as required; Hume Lake maintains the right to reassign or change duties as required. Reasonable accommodation may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the functions of the position.

  • Evidenced commitment to Jesus Christ and a desire to share the Gospel with others.

  • Strong work ethic, positive attitude, and willingness to comply with management in following instructions
  • A servant-leader attitude and heart for ministry
  • 2+ years experience in groundskeeping, landscaping, or related field (supervisory experience preferred)
  • Working knowledge of landscape tools, irrigation systems, and grounds maintenance equipment
  • Experience with snow removal equipment such as plow trucks, skid steers, and snow blowers preferred
  • Strong organizational and communication skills
  • Ability to prioritize tasks and adapt to changing conditions, including inclement weather
  • Willingness to work outdoors in all seasons, including early mornings or late nights during snow events
Physical Requirements
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs
  • Capable of extended periods of standing, walking, bending, and manual labor
  • Ability to operate equipment safely and effectively in various terrain and weather conditions
Work Environment This position is primarily outdoors and requires the ability to work in varying weather conditions, including snow, rain, and extreme temperatures.
