Job description

Build Relationships. Help Shape The Future.
Industrial Finishes & Systems is looking for more than an experienced HR professional. We are searching for a capable, curious, and highly adaptable leader who can help a successful organization continue to grow, and improve. This is an opportunity to lead the Human Resources function for a complex, multi-state company while working directly with our President/CEO, Chief Operating Officer, and senior leadership team.
For the right person, this is not simply another HR Manager position. It is an opportunity to be a part of a successful, still growing 68-year-young organization with a national footprint.
Who We Are
Industrial Finishes & Systems has been serving customers for more than 68 years. What began as a local business has grown into a stable and increasingly complex organization with:
  • More than 40 locations
  • Operations in over 17 states
  • Nearly 400 employees
  • Customers across the automotive, industrial, aerospace, recreational vehicle, and specialty-vehicle markets

We are proud of our history, but we are not standing still. We continue to grow, evolve, invest in our people, and prepare the organization for the future.
Our culture is grounded, in part, with Christian values of serving others, gratitude, genuine relationships, and integrity. We want capable leaders who are innovative, forward-thinking, and passionate.
The Opportunity
The Human Resources Manager plans, leads, coordinates, and performs the functions of the Human Resources Department. As a member of our Corporate Office Leadership Team, you will work closely with the President/CEO and Chief Operating Officer to translate organizational strategy and leadership direction into effective HR programs, systems, practices, communication, and results.
You will lead the HR team, advise managers and senior leaders, strengthen HR systems, resolve complex employee matters, and help create greater consistency across a growing multi-state organization.
This is a hands-on leadership role. You must be comfortable moving between leadership conversations and practical execution. On any given day, you may coach a manager, lead an investigation, facilitate a difficult conversation, evaluate a compensation issue, improve an HR process, develop training, or advise senior leadership on an important employment decision.
This May Be the Right Opportunity for You If...
You are a consummate professional with a proven record of HR leadership, but your experience and identity extend beyond policies and compliance.
Others describe you as:
  • Genuinely humble
  • Hungry to learn
  • Naturally curious
  • Emotionally intelligent
  • Highly adaptable
  • Resilient
  • Creative
  • Energetic
  • Proactive
  • Collaborative

You enjoy building relationships and serving others, but you are also able to establish priorities, professional boundaries, and clear expectations.
You are flexible without compromising your principles. You are humble without being passive. You are collaborative, but you are willing to respectfully disagree when the situation requires it.
You do not wait for every problem to arrive at your desk. You anticipate organizational needs, recognize emerging risks, identify opportunities for improvement, and recommend practical solutions.
You remain composed when circumstances change, priorities compete, or difficult issues arise. Rather than becoming discouraged by complexity, you bring structure, clarity, sound judgment, and forward movement.
Most importantly, you want to be part of a stable, growing organization where your work can influence employees, managers, leaders, and the future of the company.
What You Will Do
In this position, you will:
  • Lead, coach, develop, and support the Human Resources team.
  • Translate organizational priorities into practical HR plans, processes, programs, and results.
  • Serve as a trusted advisor to the President/CEO, Chief Operating Officer, senior leaders, managers, and supervisors.
  • Provide objective guidance regarding employee relations, performance management, workplace conduct, organizational needs, and employment-related risk.
  • Conduct and oversee professional workplace investigations.
  • Facilitate difficult conversations and help managers resolve employee and workplace conflicts.
  • Maintain current knowledge of federal and multi-state employment laws.
  • Develop, implement, communicate, and administer HR policies, practices, and programs.
  • Lead or support recruiting, onboarding, performance management, employee development, succession planning, and retention initiatives.
  • Design, facilitate, and coordinate training for employees, supervisors, and managers.
  • Support compensation analysis, job evaluation, pay practices, and compensation-plan design.
  • Improve HR systems, processes, reporting, communication, and consistency across company locations.
  • Use technology, automation, data, and artificial intelligence to improve HR effectiveness and employee service.
  • Help leaders evaluate difficult decisions by considering legal requirements, company values, employee impact, operational needs, and long-term consequences.
  • Promote accountability, collaboration, integrity, professional excellence, and reliable follow-through throughout the organization.

What You Bring
  • Significant progressively responsible HR experience.
  • Experience leading or supervising employees or an HR function.
  • Experience working in a mid-sized, multi-location, or multi-state organization.
  • Strong knowledge of employment law and employee-relations practices.
  • Experience conducting workplace investigations.
  • Experience in training and development, facilitation, conflict resolution, and performance management.
  • Experience in compensation analysis, pay practices, or compensation-plan design.
  • Strong written, verbal, presentation, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • The ability to manage competing priorities in a fast-paced and changing environment.
  • Confidence using HR systems, workplace technology, data, automation, and artificial intelligence.
  • The judgment and courage to raise concerns, ask difficult questions, and respectfully recommend an alternative course of action.

Professional HR certification, such as SHRM-CP, SHRM-SCP, PHR, or SPHR, is preferred.
Experience outside the traditional HR function is highly valued. A multidisciplinary background in operations, finance, safety, risk management, project management, organizational development, training, consulting, or another business discipline may help you bring the broad perspective we are seeking.
Compensation
The anticipated base annual salary range for this position is: $125,000 to $155,000
The successful candidate will also be eligible to participate in applicable discretionary and non-discretionary bonus programs. Final compensation will be determined based on relevant experience, education, certifications, demonstrated capabilities, internal considerations, and overall fit for the position.
Location and Work Arrangement
This position is connected to our Corporate Office in Eugene, Oregon. We are open to considering a hybrid work arrangement for the right candidate. Candidates who live outside Lane County will be expected to travel periodically to the Corporate Office for leadership meetings, team development, planning, training, and other business needs. The timing and frequency of Corporate Office visits will be arranged based on the needs of the position and the organization. Approved business travel expenses associated with required visits will be paid by the company. Because this is a highly relational leadership position, the successful candidate must be willing and able to maintain a meaningful presence with the HR team, senior leaders, managers, and employees throughout the organization. Occasional travel to other company locations may also be required.
Our Selection Process
We take this position and the selection of the right leader seriously. Our hiring process is designed to help both the company and the candidate determine whether there is a strong long-term fit. Candidates selected to advance may participate in:
  • Initial screening (phone/zoom)
  • Online assessments, which may include the PXT Select profile, Clifton Strengths, or DiSC
  • Panel interviews with staff and final interview with top leadership
  • An onsite visit to our Corporate Office

The assessments are not intended to provide a single pass-or-fail result. They are used alongside interviews, experience, professional accomplishments, references, and other relevant information to better understand each candidate's strengths, work style, leadership approach, and potential fit with the organization.
Why Industrial Finishes & Systems?
Some companies offer stability. Others offer growth and opportunity. Industrial Finishes & Systems offers both.
You will join an organization with a 68-year history, a broad geographic footprint, diverse business operations, and a continued desire to grow and improve. You will have regular access to senior leadership and the opportunity to influence how HR supports employees, strengthens managers, and advances the organization.
We are not looking for someone to simply maintain what already exists. We are looking for a leader who can build relationships, improve systems, develop others, solve problems, and help take our organization to the next level.
If that challenge excites you, we would like to hear from you.
