Walters-Morgan Construction, Inc. is a general contractor headquartered in Manhattan, KS, with a history dating back to 1938. We specialize in the water and wastewater industry, providing construction services for the building and upgrading of water treatment plants primarily throughout Kansas, Nebraska, and Oklahoma.

Our projects include mechanical equipment installation and replacement, pumps, piping, clarifier equipment, bar screens, grit removal equipment, heavy civil and concrete construction, sitework, excavation, grading, and more.

Position Overview:

Walters-Morgan Construction, Inc. is seeking an HR & Recruiting Specialist to join our team in Manhattan, KS.

This position will support the company's human resources and recruiting efforts, with a strong focus on attracting, hiring, and retaining qualified employees across both office and field operations. The ideal candidate is organized, proactive, personable, and comfortable managing multiple priorities in a fast-paced construction environment.

The HR & Recruiting Specialist will work closely with company leadership, hiring managers, project managers, and employees to support the full employee lifecycle and help ensure Walters-Morgan continues to attract and retain top talent.

Responsibilities:

  • Manage the full-cycle recruiting process from job posting through hiring and onboarding.
  • Develop and post job openings across appropriate job boards and recruiting platforms.
  • Establish and maintain recruiting relationships with educational environments.
  • Source and identify qualified candidates for office, field, skilled trade, and construction positions.
  • Review resumes, conduct phone screens, coordinate interviews, and communicate with candidates throughout the hiring process.
  • Partner with hiring managers to understand staffing needs, job requirements, and candidate qualifications.
  • Maintain a strong pipeline of qualified candidates for current and future positions.
  • Coordinate pre-employment processes, including background checks, drug screening, references, and required documentation.
  • Assist with new hire onboarding and orientation.
  • Maintain accurate and organized employee and recruiting records.
  • Support employee relations and respond to employee questions and HR-related needs.
  • Assist with company policies, procedures, and HR communications.
  • Help coordinate employee training, development, and compliance requirements.
  • Track recruiting activity, open positions, candidate pipelines, and hiring metrics.
  • Assist with benefits administration and other HR processes as needed.
  • Support company culture and employee engagement initiatives.
  • Maintain confidentiality when handling employee and company information.
  • Ensure HR practices are consistent with company policies and applicable employment laws.
  • Represent Walters-Morgan Construction, Inc. professionally when interacting with candidates, employees, vendors, and other stakeholders.

Qualifications:

  • Previous experience in human resources, recruiting, talent acquisition, or a related field.
  • Recruiting experience in construction or another industrial environment is preferred.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Highly organized with excellent attention to detail.
  • Ability to manage multiple open positions and priorities simultaneously.
  • Comfortable communicating with candidates and employees at all levels of an organization.
  • Strong computer and administrative skills.

What We're Looking For:

We're looking for someone who can take ownership of our recruiting and HR processes and help us build a strong team for the future. The right person will be proactive, organized, and comfortable picking up the phone, building relationships, finding candidates, and keeping the hiring process moving.

Experience working with a construction or industrial workforce is highly preferred, but we are open to candidates with strong HR or recruiting experience from other industries.
