About Crystal Cove Conservancy

Crystal Cove Conservancy (The Conservancy) is the nonprofit dedicated to the protection, preservation and sustainability of Crystal Cove State Park, located on the traditional and unceded lands of the Acjachemen and Tongva Tribal Nations.

Crystal Cove Conservancy and California State Parks have worked together to develop innovative educational programs that engage K-12 students and community members, preserve historic beach cottages, conserve miles of precious California coastline, steward acres of threatened habitat and promote access for historically-excluded groups.

Position Summary

This is a new position at The Conservancy and as the organization’s first dedicated Human Resources Generalist/Manager, this role will shape the human resources department, working directly with senior leadership to support the people behind Crystal Cove's preservation, education and conservation work. The Human Resources Generalist/Manager is responsible for all human resources administration including recruiting, new hire orientation and onboarding, employee relations, investigations, leaves of absence and workers’ compensation. The Human Resources Generalist/Manager works closely with Human Resources Consultant to handle matters of significance and to remain in compliance. The Human Resources Generalist/Manager reports directly to the Director of Finance.

Compensation & Benefits

The compensation for this position is $70,000 per year. This position is eligible for the following benefits:

Essential Position Responsibilities

  • Manage the administration of the Human Resources department, including the development and implementation of policies and procedures.
  • Lead employee relations initiatives, including workplace morale, maintaining a positive work environment and addressing employee concerns.
  • Recruiting including resume review, posting jobs, contacting candidates, scheduling interviews and participating in interviews.
  • Conduct new employee onboarding and new hire orientation.
  • Review, verify and process all new hire paperwork.
  • Maintain employee files and keep records up to date.
  • Enroll new employees in health insurance benefits, making changes, reviewing and approving all incoming bills for processing.
  • Process workers’ compensation claims and maintain the process from open to close.
  • Assist with leave of absence letters, monitor leave return status, process payments while on leave for insurance coverage and engage in the interactive process with employees on leave.
  • Maintain and update required training records for employees.
  • Assist with auditing time and attendance and reviewing time off requests as necessary.
  • Additional responsibilities as necessary.

Qualifications

  • 2-5 years of related experience in a similar role in an organization of at least 50 employees.
  • A bachelor’s degree in a related field and/or equivalent work experience required. A bachelor’s degree is preferred.
  • Good working knowledge of California employment laws and the ability to interpret them.
  • Good communication and small-group presentation skills.
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, integrity and the ability to keep information confidential.
  • Strong attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple priorities.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and is easily able to learn new software.
  • Ability to write reports and general business correspondence.
