Job description

Company Profile:

Alabama Ag Credit is a financial institution that provides financing for agriculture, agribusiness and rural real estate purchases and improvements.  The institution is headquartered in Montgomery, Alabama, with ten offices that service the lower 40 counties of Alabama.  With over $1.5 billion in assets, the institution is a cooperative and part of the nationwide Farm Credit System.

Education and Experience Requirements:

Applicants must have a bachelor’s degree or have earned a degree by the start of the program. Students currently enrolled in an undergraduate program must have an anticipated graduation date no later than May 2027. Preferred fields of study include agriculture, agricultural business, finance, accounting, business administration, economics, marketing, communications, or a related field. Previous internship, work, leadership, agricultural, community involvement, or customer service experience is preferred. Candidates should demonstrate strong communication, analytical, organizational, interpersonal, and problem-solving skills, along with a willingness to learn, adapt, and work collaboratively across multiple departments.

Essential Functions:

The Apprentice participates in a structured, approximately 24-month rotational development program designed to prepare future leaders of Alabama Ag Credit through hands-on experience across the Association's core business functions. Working alongside experienced employees and leaders, the apprentice develops an understanding of the cooperative business model, agricultural finance, customer relationships, lending, credit administration, financial operations, technology, communications, and leadership while contributing meaningful work throughout the program.

Developmental assignments may include, but are not limited to:

  • Marketing and Community Development
  • Credit and Risk Management
  • Lending and Relationship Management
  • Accounting and Financial Operations
  • Executive Leadership exposure
  • Customer and community engagement
  • Cross-functional projects and special assignments

The apprentice will participate in customer visits, branch operations, Association meetings, community events, and other activities designed to develop a broad understanding of Alabama Ag Credit's mission, operations, and culture. This position requires the ability to build relationships, communicate effectively, exercise sound judgment, manage multiple priorities, and adapt to changing assignments while working independently and as part of a team.

Travel throughout Alabama Ag Credit's service territory is required, including occasional overnight travel.

Successful completion of the program does not guarantee placement into a specific position. Long-term placement will be based on demonstrated performance, competencies, career interests, organizational needs, and the availability of an appropriate position. Alabama Ag Credit reserves the right to modify the sequence, duration, or content of developmental assignments based on business needs and participant performance.

At the discretion of Alabama Ag Credit, this position may be offered at an alternate title, and other education or business experience may be considered relevant.

Why Join Alabama Ag Credit?

The Leadership Apprentice Program offers an opportunity to gain broad business experience while building a career with one of Alabama's leading agricultural lenders. Participants work alongside experienced professionals, receive mentorship from leaders across the Association, and develop the knowledge and skills needed for future career opportunities within Alabama Ag Credit.

At the discretion of Alabama Ag Credit, position may be offered at alternate titles and other business experience may be considered relevant.
