The Role
We are seeking a detail-oriented Manufacturing Technician, Materials and Batching to join our Media Production team in Morgan Hill, California. Reporting to the Operations Manager, this role is responsible for preparing pre-reduced anaerobically sterilized culture media to defined specifications and production goals while supporting materials management and inventory accuracy.
This hands-on position combines precise media batching, operation of production equipment, detailed manufacturing documentation, and inventory and procurement activities. Success requires strong attention to detail, basic chemistry and mathematics skills, sound judgment, and the ability to follow written procedures in a regulated production environment.
Requirements
Where You Make a Difference
• Check the production calendar and prepare the appropriate manufacturing and quality control records for scheduled media.
• Prepare manufacturing records and verify auto-calculated lot numbers, ingredient quantities, and mixing volumes.
• Measure, prepare, add, and mix ingredients in the specified order according to work instructions, documenting each manufacturing step accurately.
• Operate equipment used to prepare anaerobic culture media, including autoclaves, boilers, stir/hot plates, reactors and reactor controllers, water baths, pH meters, and measuring scales.
• Return components to storage and clean mixing equipment, cans, counters, and production areas according to established procedures.
• Administer Media Production inventory and procurement activities in NetSuite, including purchase orders, material replenishment, and ongoing inventory monitoring.
• Help prevent material shortages and maintain system accuracy while identifying opportunities to reduce material costs through approved suppliers and potential bulk discounts.
• Follow sterile technique, safety requirements, standard operating procedures, and applicable quality and regulatory requirements, including ISO and GMP practices.
• Escalate complex production or materials issues to the Operations Manager and support other duties as assigned.
What You Bring
• Bachelor's degree in a life science field and relevant laboratory experience; a background in chemistry is preferred.
• Basic chemistry and mathematics knowledge needed to accurately measure and prepare culture media.
• Ability to follow detailed written work instructions and perform multiple production steps accurately and consistently.
• Knowledge of sterile technique and handling practices used to prevent product contamination.
• Ability to operate or learn production equipment used for media preparation and mixing.
• Technological proficiency to perform NetSuite or other ERP tasks related to inventory, purchasing, and materials management.
• Strong organizational, problem-solving, and communication skills, with sound judgment about when to escalate issues.
• Ability to work professionally and collaboratively with supervisors, co-workers, management, and Quality Control.
• Ability to stand for up to approximately two hours at a time, perform moderate lifting of 15-35 pounds, and move wheeled equipment or supply containers weighing up to approximately 100 pounds.
• Ability to work in required personal protective equipment and safely handle chemicals in a clean mixing lab and production environment.
What We Offer
• Competitive compensation
• Comprehensive medical coverage with 100% employer-paid premiums for employees and 75% for dependents, plus dental and vision included
• Company-paid life, short-term, and long-term disability insurance
• Flexible paid time off and paid sick leave
