This position is designated as work-from-home.

Description

As a Senior Appian Developer with Synergy, your primary role is to be an expert in the design and implementation of Appian code.  The projects we staff are unusually complex, so a standard background in building Appian BPM solutions usually does not prepare developers well for work here. You must be able to analyze complex existing systems with significant tech debt and performance limitations. The solutions you build must fulfill the requirements of the client, perform well under high load, and not introduce unnecessary technical debt in the future.  Specifically, much of the work required will involve highly complex and technical expression rules and interfaces, so expertise in looping, local variables, and the flow of information between Appian objects is a must.

As a member of a large team, you will also be responsible for mentoring more junior developers, as well as peer reviewing the code produced by your peers.  Peer review is primarily focused on best practices and performance.  A typical development cycle includes receiving paved requirements from a business analyst, analyzing the requirements to find the best design, implementation and unit testing, packaging for deployment, and then follow-up with the FQA/SQA team for additional debugging.

   Essential Functions & Duties:
  • Focus on business logic and process flows, working on the design and development of business logic, process models/flows and UI screens to implement in a BPM (Business Process Management)-based system.
  • Work closely with Business Analysts to review user stories and analyze implementation methods and architectures.
  • Work closely with team members to coordinate code implementations and deployment.
  • Peer review code from other team developers to ensure best practices and performant application design.
  • Unit testing, technical problem determination and debugging.
  • Manage daily work in the Atlassian suite of applications (Jira, Confluence, Bitbucket and Bamboo).
  • Ensure software maintains data integrity, security and best practice standards.
  • Mentor junior BPM developers to improve capabilities of the team.
  • Manage and coordinate all requirements for a single epic across 1 or 2 developers.
Skills, Qualifications and Certifications of Best Candidates:
  • Degree in Computer/Information Science, Engineering, or Mathematics OR must obtain a CSSLP certification within 6 months.
  • Appian software development experience. (minimum 3 years of experience)
  • Minimum Appian Certified Senior Developer.
  • Knowledge of Appian software design, web development and design languages. Understanding and hands-on experience with Agile software development methodologies. Strong desire to learn customer business processes.
  • Strong analytical and communication skills.
  • Highly adaptable to rapidly changing environments and situations.
  • Effectively prioritizes work and has well-honed problem-solving skills.
  • Self-starter with strong self-management skills.
  • Travel for 1 week quarterly expected.
Required Education, certification & Experience:
  • A BS degree in Information Technology, Cybersecurity, Data Science, Information Systems, or Computer Science, from an ABET accredited or CAE designated institution fulfills the educational requirement .
  • Note: The U.S. Department of Education Database of Accredited Postsecondary Institutions and Programs located at https://amspub.abet.org/aps/name-search?searchType=institution identifies accredited postsecondary institutions. In Lieu of education requirement listed, candidate must have the required certification or will obtain required certification within 6 months of the start date. Certification requirement(s) for this role is AN IASAE II certification (CASP+CE, CLSSP associate) or CSSLP.
Citizenship or Work Authorization Required:
  • Ability to attain Federal Government Position of Trust. Ability to obtain a public trust clearance.
  • Must be a U.S. citizen
  • Must pass a background investigation

Compensation for roles at Synergy varies depending on a wide variety of factors including but not limited to the requirements of the role; education and certifications; knowledge, training, skills and abilities; level of experience; geographic location; and alignment with market data, law, and other business and organizational needs. As required by local law, the posted pay range represents the lowest to the highest pay that Synergy believes in good faith it might pay for this particular job, depending on the circumstances. The disclosed range estimate has not been adjusted for the applicable geographic differential associated with the location at which the position may be filled. It is not typical for an individual to be hired at or near the top of the range for their role and compensation decisions are dependent on the facts and circumstances of each case.

A reasonable estimate of the current pay range is: $133,000.00 - $190,000.00

Essential Job Function Physical Requirements: The physical requirements of this position are critical in evaluating the qualifications and abilities of an applicant or employee. The physical efforts needed to perform the essential duties of this job 90% of the time are repetitive motions, grasping, holding, and finger dexterity of the hands, reading, writing, eye-hand coordination, color distinction, and full visual abilities, hearing, talking, sitting, and use of IT equipment, phones, and office machines.
