Job Description: Dishwasher/ Utility Person at Golden Corral

Position Title: Dishwasher/ Utility Person
Reports To: General Manager / Assistant Manager

Position Overview:

The Utility Person is responsible for many duties that have a great impact on the guests’ dining experience.  Guests consistently rate cleanliness as the most important factor in deciding whether to return to a restaurant, so each Utility Person must acquire the skill, knowledge, and ability to execute the job with excellence. The Utility Person is responsible for general cleanliness inside and outside the restaurant.  Dishwashing is an integral part of this position.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Wash dishes, pots, pans, utensils, and other kitchen equipment in a timely manner to support kitchen staff.

  • Maintain cleanliness and organization of the dishwashing area, ensuring that all supplies (soap, detergents, etc.) are stocked and ready for use.

  • Assist in cleaning and sanitizing workstations, floors, and other areas of the kitchen, including trash removal.

  • Operate dishwashing machines and manually wash items as necessary.

  • Cleans the inside of the restaurant to provide a pleasant, safe environment for guests and Co-workers.

  • Cleans around the outside of the building and the parking lot.

  • Checks, cleans, and stocks the rest rooms.

  • Empties trash into the dumpster and keeps the dumpster, trash cans and back dock area clean.

  • Thoroughly cleans and organizes the utility area.

  • Performs duty roster and Cleanliness, Services, and Qualities (CSQ) responsibilities.  

  • Ensure all dishes and equipment are properly sanitized according to food safety standards.

  • Help with food prep when needed, such as peeling, chopping, and storing ingredients.

  • Assist with restocking clean dishes, glassware, and utensils in their appropriate locations.

  • Work closely with kitchen staff to ensure dishes and utensils are available when needed.

  • Maintain a positive attitude and contribute to a team-oriented work environment.

  • Follow all health and safety regulations, including proper handling of chemicals and food items.

Qualifications:

  • No prior experience required (training will be provided).

  • Ability to work in a fast-paced kitchen environment.

  • Strong attention to detail and a good work ethic.

Job Requirements:

  • Ability to stand for extended periods (4-8+ hours) with periodic breaks.

  • Perform repetitive motions, including frequent use of hands and arms for tasks such as chopping, stirring, carrying, and operating equipment.

  • Frequent bending, stooping, squatting, stretching, twisting, and reaching above eye level.

  • Capability to walk up and down stairs and use a step ladder as needed.

  • Occasional sitting, talking, and active listening as required by the role.

  • Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds regularly as part of job duties, including but not limited to food supplies, dishware, and equipment. When handling heavier loads, employees MUST use appropriate lifting equipment and/or seek assistance from a second person. 

  • Ability to move around the kitchen quickly and efficiently.

  • Compliance with food safety and sanitation regulations.

  • Work in a loud, fast-paced environment.
