Job description

Hardware Lab Technician

We’re seeking a Hardware Lab Technician to assemble and disassemble hardware prototypes. In this very hands-on role, you will support the hardware development by prototyping and testing electrical assemblies.

Responsibilities:
  • Assemble and disassemble early hardware prototypes, ensuring mechanical and electrical integrity. Perform precision solder rework on fine-pitch components, including through-hole and surface-mount (SMT) devices. Modify and repair PCB assemblies according to engineering change orders and debug findings.
  • Build custom wire harnesses and coaxial cable assemblies for prototype systems. Crimp, splice, and terminate connectors following IPC and industry best practices. Maintain inventory of cables and connectors for rapid prototyping cycles.
  • Operate standard lab equipment (oscilloscopes, power supplies, multimeters) to verify electrical continuity and basic functionality.
  • Ensure safe practices are always followed.

Required Skills:
  • 5+ years of hands-on experience in a hardware lab, supporting prototype builds for consumer electronics or similar products.
  • Proficient in soldering SMT (01005s, fine pitched BGAs, etc.) and through-hole components with hot-air and hand-soldering techniques.
  • Skilled in wire harness and cable assembly, including crimping, stripping, and heat-shrink application.
  • Comfortable interpreting electrical schematics, mechanical drawings, and assembly documentation.
  • Strong troubleshooting skills for electrical connectivity and mechanical fit issues.
  • Familiarity with ESD-safe practices and basic electrical safety.
  • Experience with reballing BGA packages and fine-pitch rework under a microscope

Hourly Pay Rate
  • $45-$55/hour
