Job description

Sperton Global AS, a global recruitment and consulting firm with offices across Europe, Asia, and the Americas, is partnering with our client, a global leader in power technology and electrical infrastructure, to hire a Field Service Technician supporting high-voltage power transformers across the United States. This is a full-time, remote and field-based role requiring travel of up to 85 percent to customer sites.
Role Overview
The Field Service Technician will provide hands-on field service support for high-voltage power transformers, helping customers install, maintain, and restore electrical assets across a range of voltage classes (69kV to 550kV). The work includes installation, commissioning, maintenance, repairs, upgrades, and end-of-life services, often performed on-site in challenging field conditions. Working closely with service colleagues and customers, the successful candidate will contribute to equipment reliability, extended transformer life, and the dependable operation of power grid infrastructure.
Responsibilities
  • Perform on-site and remote service activities including installation, commissioning, maintenance, repairs, upgrades, retrofits, and replacements on high-voltage power transformers.
  • Support customer operations by addressing technical issues and anticipating service needs.
  • Read and work from electrical and mechanical drawings, instructions, and technical manuals.
  • Complete internal transformer work such as bushing connections, lead clearance, tapping, crimping, taping, and contoured joints.
  • Conduct transformer field testing, including transformer turns ratio, power factor and dissipation factor, insulation resistance, and contact resistance testing.
  • Repair, re-gasket, assemble, and disassemble transformer equipment as directed.
  • Operate and maintain vacuum oil processing and oil handling equipment with direction, including completing all required logs and supporting dissolved gas and oil quality analysis.
  • Coordinate logistics for service jobs, including tools, resources, and spare parts.
  • Contribute ideas for product and process improvements that enhance operations and customer service.
  • Ensure compliance with all applicable external and internal regulations, procedures, and guidelines.
Qualifications
  • Candidate must already have work authorization that would permit them to work in the United States. No sponsorship is available.
  • Associate Degree with 2 years of professional work experience, or High School Diploma or GED with 5 years of professional work experience.
  • Broad knowledge of transformer field service operations and transformer field testing on high-voltage equipment (69kV to 550kV).
  • Familiarity with transformer installation and assembly, vacuum and oil processing, and internal transformer components.
  • Valid driver's license with the ability to travel up to 85 percent.
