Carrollwood Farms is located in Stokes and Rockingham Counties. A family farm for generations to come, Carrollwood Farms is dedicated to showcasing and preserving the best of the region and is committed to being the best in all we do.


Job Title FARMER (full-time hourly)

Reports To HEAD FARMER


Description

The Farmer position is a full-time, hourly position requiring a flexible schedule including occasional evening and weekend work. As with all positions at Carrollwood Farms, the Farmer may be called upon to work in areas outside of the immediate area of responsibility.


Responsibilities

The Farmerโ€™s duties include participating, under the direction of supervision including the Head Farmerโ€™s, in all livestock and agronomic activities at the farm. This includes:

  • row crop production (corn, soybeans, small grains, alternative crops) and management
  • cover crop management
  • beef herd management
  • donkey care
  • hunting (deer, turkey, and when appropriate released birds), including cleaning birds
  • establishing and maintaining wildlife habitat
  • maintaining farm landscapes including field edges, roads, and waterways
  • farm recordkeeping

Qualifications

The Farmer should have a

  • Minimum of 10 yearsโ€™ experience in production agriculture
  • Knowledge of row crop agronomy
  • Knowledge of large animal husbandry.
  • Have experience in how to safely operate and maintain farm equipment including: tractors, spreaders, cultivators, discs, mowers, balers, harvest equipment, roller mixers, and more.
  • Knowledge about how to store and move grain in grain bins is required, as well as how to store and handle hay


The Farmer must also be able to haul a cattle trailer (including to slaughterhouse) and use cattle handling equipment.

Individuals interested in this position must be highly motivated and have a โ€œno job is too small mindset.โ€ This individual must have excellent time and project management skills.


Notes

If the Farmer must work on an official holiday, arrangements will be made to provide credit for time worked.

Able to operator tractors up to 200hp. Knowledge and ability to install fencing
