Registration Clerk (Float)

We are seeking a customer-focused and detail-oriented Registration Clerk (Float) to join our healthcare team in Salinas, CA. The ideal candidate will provide exceptional patient registration and front-office support while ensuring accurate patient information, insurance verification, and efficient registration processes. This role requires excellent communication, data entry, and organizational skills in a fast-paced hospital environment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Greet patients, visitors, and families with professionalism, compassion, and excellent customer service.
  • Register inpatient and outpatient admissions by accurately collecting demographic, insurance, and financial information.
  • Verify patient identity using appropriate identification and ensure accurate documentation.
  • Enter patient information into the hospital registration system with a high level of accuracy.
  • Obtain insurance information, authorizations, and required documentation for patient services.
  • Collect copies of insurance cards, Medicare, Medi-Cal, and other required identification documents.
  • Prepare patient charts, identification bands, labels, and registration paperwork.
  • Review registration information for completeness and accuracy before processing.
  • Process patient transfers, bed changes, and updates within the electronic registration system.
  • Maintain confidentiality and comply with HIPAA, hospital policies, and federal/state regulations.
  • Provide outstanding customer service while assisting patients during stressful or emergency situations.
  • Float between registration areas and departments based on operational needs.
Minimum Qualifications
  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Minimum 1 year of medical office, hospital registration, or patient access experience.
  • Minimum 1 year of high-volume data entry experience.
  • Strong computer and keyboarding skills with excellent attention to detail.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to multitask in a fast-paced healthcare environment.
  • Strong organizational, problem-solving, and customer service skills.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with hospital registration or patient access systems.
  • Knowledge of insurance verification, pre-authorizations, Medicare, Medi-Cal, and commercial insurance.
  • Experience with electronic medical records (EMR/EHR) systems.
