Veterinary Technician / Assistant Bayside Veterinary Care (Barrington, RI) Bayside Veterinary Care, a full-service small animal practice located in Barrington, Rhode Island, is seeking an experienced part-time veterinary technician. We are a progressive, patient-centered practice with an emphasis on comprehensive, compassionate care and client education. Our facility is equipped with the latest technology including: IDEXX Cornerstone software, IDEXX digital x-ray, IDEXX in-house lab equipment, digital color ultrasound, tonometry, all parameters of anesthesia monitoring (including ET CO2), a full in-house and online pharmacy, and dental x-ray. Our staff is comprised of mature, thoughtful and drama-free professionals who work together as a team. In keeping with our dedication to providing Fear-free care to our patients, we strive to maintain an upbeat, congenial attitude while delivering top quality medical care. The right candidate should be respectful, eloquent, independent-thinking, and a team player. General abilities must include a firm grasp of veterinary terminology; strong computer skills, client communication, and consistently gentle caregiving. Specific skills must include safe restraint and monitoring for fear or pain, routine wellness care (injections, phlebotomy, laboratory testing), and surgical patient preparation, IV catheterization, and monitoring. Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Checks patient medical records for past histories, enters in computer and files.
  • Takes medical histories and vital signs of patients.*
  • Maintains client educational material in an efficient manner.*
  • Performs departmental housekeeping duties.*
  • Admits and discharges patients.*
  • Takes, processes and logs prescription refills in-house, call out pharmacy and online pharmacy.*
  • Perform anesthesia induction and monitoring.*
  • Monitoring hospital patients and logging vital signs.*
  • Administering medications to patients as needed.*
  • Placing catheters and performing blood draws.*
  • Restraining and assisting the doctor during exams, treatments, and anesthesia procedures.*
  • Must be able to lift 50 pounds, stoop, bend, and stand on feet for long periods
  • Other duties as assigned.
*Denotes an Essential Function Qualifications: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The technician must be able to multi-task. They must be able to think quickly on their feet. They must be able to develop positive working relationships with clients and co-workers. Education/Experience: High school diploma or general education degree (GED); and one to two years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. All Part Time Team Members are eligible for the following:
