They typically play instruments such as piano and tailor their accompaniment to match the tempo, style, and mood required for various ballet exercises. With advancements in technology, many accompanists now offer their services remotely, either by streaming live sessions or sending pre-recorded tracks to ballet instructors and students. This role requires strong musical skills, a good understanding of ballet terminology, and the ability to adapt music to the needs of dancers.

Familiarity with digital audio workstations, remote recording software, and high-quality home recording equipment is typically required. Excellent communication, adaptability, and time management skills help in collaborating remotely with dance instructors and meeting tight deadlines. These skills ensure the accompanist can deliver precise, expressive music that enhances dance instruction and supports the needs of ballet teachers and students.
