Description
The part-time Assistant Learn to Skate Coach supports the Head Coach in developing skaters' skills in a positive, safe, and encouraging environment, and helps foster teamwork, discipline, and sportsmanship. This position reports to the Learn to Skate Head Coach.
Job Duties
- Assist the Head Coach with planning and conducting on-ice practices.
- Teach and demonstrate proper skating techniques, including:
- Forward and backward skating
- Edge work
- Crossovers
- Starts and stops
- Agility and speed development
- Provide individual feedback and encouragement to athletes.
- Help maintain a safe and organized practice environment.
- Assist during games, clinics, camps, and special events as needed.
- Set up and organize practice equipment before and after sessions.
- Communicate professionally with players, parents, and coaching staff.
- Promote teamwork, respect, and a positive attitude among participants.
- Follow all organization, league, and SafeSport policies and procedures.
Qualifications
- Previous hockey or figure skating experience with strong skating fundamentals.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work with athletes of various ages and skill levels.
- Reliable, punctual, and enthusiastic.
- Current coaching certifications (or willingness to obtain), such as:
- Learn to Skate USA certification
- SafeSport Training
Prior coaching or teaching experience preferred but not required.
Working conditions are cold climate. Position can involve sitting, standing, walking, running, stooping, lifting, carrying, pushing and pulling.
- Ability to skate for extended periods.
- Lift and move equipment weighing up to 30 pounds.
- Stand, bend, and demonstrate skating techniques throughout practices.
Sessions are held on Sunday afternoons for 2-3 hours with 3-4 sessions per season.
Compensation
$15-$20 hourly wage commensurate with experience and qualifications
