Job description

Role Overview
MetroSys is seeking an experienced Ad Hoc Network Engineer to provide on-demand support across a multi-building Cisco network environment. This role is ideal for a senior-level engineer who can quickly assess issues, execute changes, and support ongoing network initiatives as needed. Work will be performed onsite and may vary based on operational needs, projects, or incidents.Key Responsibilities
  • Provide on-demand network engineering support across multiple buildings and network closets.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve issues related to Cisco switching, routing, and wireless infrastructure.
  • Support network changes including VLAN updates, switch configuration changes, port provisioning, and firmware upgrades.
  • Assist with network refreshes, expansions, and remediation of performance or connectivity issues.
  • Support troubleshooting of outages, latency, and intermittent network problems.
  • Work collaboratively with internal IT teams and vendors on escalations and project tasks.
  • Document configurations, changes, and troubleshooting steps as required.
Required Qualifications
  • 5+ years of hands-on network engineering experience in enterprise or campus environments.
  • Strong expertise with Cisco switching and routing platforms (Catalyst, Nexus, or similar).
  • Experience supporting multi-building or campus-style networks.
  • Solid understanding of TCP/IP, VLANs, STP, routing protocols, and wireless fundamentals.
  • Ability to work independently and respond quickly in ad hoc scenarios.
  • Strong troubleshooting, communication, and documentation skills.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Cisco certification (CCNP or higher preferred).
  • Experience with wireless controllers, network monitoring tools, or NAC environments.
