Hiring Designer information

What is a hiring designer?

A Hiring Designer is a professional responsible for creating and refining the design of recruitment processes, materials, and candidate experiences. They collaborate with HR teams to develop engaging job postings, employer branding visuals, and streamlined application workflows. Their goal is to attract top talent by ensuring that every touchpoint in the hiring process is visually appealing, user-friendly, and aligned with the company's brand. Hiring Designers often leverage skills in graphic design, user experience (UX), and marketing to enhance the effectiveness of recruitment strategies.

What are some common challenges hiring designers face when balancing creativity with company branding guidelines?

Hiring Designers often need to strike a balance between exercising their creative skills and ensuring all design outputs align with established company branding guidelines. This can be challenging, as the desire to innovate may sometimes be constrained by strict brand standards or stakeholder expectations. Successful Hiring Designers approach this by actively collaborating with brand and marketing teams, regularly seeking feedback, and staying updated on any changes to brand assets. Over time, this balance becomes easier as designers become more familiar with the brand’s visual language and find creative ways to innovate within those parameters.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a hiring designer, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Hiring Designer, you need expertise in visual design, user experience principles, and a solid portfolio demonstrating your design process and outcomes, often supported by a degree in graphic or interaction design. Familiarity with design tools like Adobe Creative Suite, Figma, and prototyping software is typically required. Strong communication, collaboration, and problem-solving skills help you effectively interpret stakeholder needs and present design solutions. These abilities ensure you can create compelling, user-centered designs that align with organizational goals and enhance the hiring process.

Job description

Founded in 1973, ISG is a multi-disciplinary, full-service architecture, engineering, planning, and interior design firm, supporting clients throughout the nation.  ISG is looking to add a Water/Wastewater Designer to our dynamic team.  As a Water/Wastewater Designer, you are the architect of systems that ensure clean, safe water for everyone and protect our environment from pollution. Your innovative designs and meticulous planning are crucial in tackling one of the world's most pressing challenges. We are a full-service, multi-disciplinary team, who perform award winning work in planning, design, survey, and construction.

You would work directly with Rachel Kloos, who brings over 18 years of experience in the Water/Wastewater industry, including a focus on sustainability and water reuse applications.  In addition, you will work with closely our Water/Wastewater industry leaders; Tom Grafft, Lenny Larson and Casey Patton.
As an ISG employee owner, you will continue to grow in your career. You'll learn from us, and we'll learn from you. You'll have the freedom and autonomy to do your best work with plenty of support along the way. Our culture is essential to our success and your engagement in it.
Here are some projects we've worked on recently that might give you a better sense of what you'll be doing day to day:
  • Clarion Water Distribution System - ISG provided a comprehensive WaterCAD Distribution System Modeling and Preliminary Engineering Report identifying critical improvements needed to the City of Clarion's water distribution system and assisted with securing funding resources to realize three significant infrastructure projects.
  • Kingsley Wastewater Treatment Plant - ISG designed the retrofit of existing wastewater treatment lagoons for the City of Kingsley, enabling more compliant and higher capacity wastewater treatment processes.
  • Develop detailed project documentation using AutoCAD Plant 3D, including piping and equipment layouts, process flow diagrams (PFDs), P&IDs, and vendor drawing reviews
  • Create 3D models of assemblies and equipment utilizing AutoCAD Plant 3D for design visualization
  • Generate and populate reports from P&IDs and 3D models using the AutoCAD Plant 3D Report Creator
  • Conduct 3D model reviews and clash detection using Autodesk Navisworks Manage
  • Perform field observations and inspections during and after construction phases to ensure design compliance
  • Collaborate with engineers and designers to produce high-quality project deliverables
  • Partner with other ISG disciplines to deliver functional, detailed, and sustainable design solutions
* The above essential duties are skills that a candidate will learn and develop in this position.
We've listed a compensation range that reflects our expectations for this role, including both direct and indirect components.  We understand that your experience and value may fall outside of this range. If you feel you're a strong fit but your compensation needs differ, we're open to a conversation-let's talk.
  • Associate Degree in Drafting and Design preferred; equivalent recent work experience may be considered in lieu of formal education
  • Proficiency in Autodesk AutoCAD Plant 3D is preferred; experience with other Autodesk software is also acceptable
  • Familiarity with creating, interpreting, and understanding P&IDs is preferred
  • Knowledge of design principles and best practices for water and wastewater treatment systems
  • Understanding of systems such as chemical storage and feed, solids handling, blowers, pumps, and water treatment equipment is beneficial but not required
  • Strong analytical thinking and problem-solving abilities
  • Self-motivated with effective verbal and written communication skills
  • Proven ability to collaborate within a team and meet project schedules and deadlines
  • Medical, dental, and vision
  • Paid time off, pro-rated amount available on your start date
  • Paid holidays and paid volunteer time
  • Paid parental leave
  • Bi-annual profit sharing
  • Employee Ownership Stock Plan (ESOP)
  • 401K retirement plan
  • Life insurance
  • HSA and FSA options
  • Bereavement leave
  • Supplemental voluntary benefits
  • Short term and long-term disability
  • Parking reimbursement, varies on office location
  • Cell phone plan reimbursement
  • Mileage reimbursement for ISG-approved travel
