What You'll Do as a Highway Project Engineer

  • Lead the development of preliminary and final highway design plans and cost analyses for new and existing infrastructure projects, delivering solutions that meet client goals and performance expectations.
  • Perform highway and drainage design tasks, including roadway alignments, profiles, and related project responsibilities.
  • Maintain detailed records of design documents, reports, schedules and budgets.
  • Ensure designs adhere to state and local standards, regulations and safety codes.
  • Review plans and technical deliverables to ensure quality, accuracy, and constructability.
  • Participate in project planning meetings and align tasks to meet scope, schedule, and budget requirements.
  • Support project managers with schedules, documentation, and presentations.
  • Provide technical support during construction, respond to RFIs and attend site visits.
  • Collaborate and communicate effectively with clients, subconsultants and regulatory approving agencies.
  • Mentor junior staff and support their technical development.

Requirements

What You Bring, Your Expertise as a Highway Project Engineer

  • B.S. degree in Civil Engineering or related field (MS preferred)
  • 10+ years of transportation experience with a strong background in highway design.
  • Professional Engineering License (PE) or ability to obtain it.
  • Proficiency in MicroStation and OpenRoads.
  • Familiarity with state DOT design standards (NYSDOT or PennDOT preferred).

Salary Range $95,000-$135,000 annually
