The Opportunity
RS&H is currently seeking a Principal Highway Engineer for our Transportation Practice in our Orlando, FL office!
Job Summary:
The Senior Highway Engineer candidate will be responsible for managing the roadway/highway analysis and design, plans production, specifications, reports, and estimates efforts on large-scale conventional and design-build projects for FDOT and county clients. Additional responsibilities include client communication; managing subconsultants; mentoring roadway/highway staff; monitoring labor budgets and schedules for assigned projects; coordinating with discipline key task leaders and staff to ensure ongoing communications; performing quality control on deliverables; meeting project deliverable schedules and budgets for assigned projects; and leading/supporting marketing and business development initiatives.
Required Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering from an ABET accredited university;
  • Minimum 15 years of experience in roadway/highway engineering;
  • Florida professional engineering (PE) registration;
  • Experience managing conventional and design-build projects relating to intersections, arterials, interstates, and interchanges for FDOT and county clients;
  • Working knowledge of MicroStation, Geopak, and/or OpenRoads Designer;
  • Experience working with large multi-discipline teams;
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills;
  • Excellent organizational skills with attention to detail and overall quality control and management.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Has a diverse background in the management and delivery of both conventional Design-Bid-Build and alternative delivery Adjust Score Design-Build and/or Phased Design-Build projects.
  • Has Engineer of Record experience in a wide variety of FDOT highway projects, including Limited Access Highways, Tolled Expressways, and Urban Arterial Reconstruction and Widenings.
  • Has experience delivering FDOT District Wide and/or Continuing Services Contracts.
  • Has well-established FDOT contacts within respective geography.
  • Has identified and captured a variety of FDOT highway project solicitations.
  • Has experience in complex interchange and/or alternative intersection design.
  • Has capability to oversee and review work performed within Bentely OpenRoads Designer.
  • Has managed and led a high performing highway team.
