Job description

Join the Department of Environmental Protection's (DEP) Bureau of Clean Water, Municipal Facilities Division as an Environmental Engineer and help strengthen the water systems that serve communities across Pennsylvania. DESCRIPTION OF WORK This position provides engineering support for water infrastructure projects funded through the Pennsylvania Infrastructure Investment Authority (PENNVEST) Program and related state and federal initiatives.

Through your work, you will play a key role in ensuring that wastewater, drinking water, and stormwater projects are properly designed, reviewed, and managed. As an Environmental Engineer, you will perform the following duties: Project Review: Evaluate feasibility studies, engineering plans, specifications, and funding applications for water infrastructure projects Technical Guidance: Provide assistance to applicants and staff on program requirements, design standards, and construction expectations Data Management: Input project information into electronic systems with accuracy and compliance to established standards Program Support: Assist with statewide oversight of infrastructure projects funded through federal and state programs Field Coordination: Visit project sites to support planning, inspections, and technical reviews Policy Development: Contribute to guidance, procedures, and regulatory updates for the PENNVEST Program Interested in learning more. Work Schedule and Additional Information: Full-time employment Work hours are 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch. Travel is required. Telework: You may have the opportunity to work from home (telework) part-time, up to 3 days per week.

In order to telework, you must have a securely configured high-speed internet connection and work from an approved location inside Pennsylvania. If you are unable to telework, you will have the option to report to the headquarters office in Meadville. The ability to telework is subject to change at any time.

Salary: Selected candidates who are new to employment with the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania will begin employment at the starting annual salary of $75,658.00 (before taxes). REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY QUALIFICATIONS Minimum Experience and Training Requirements: Two years as an Environmental Engineering Specialist (Commonwealth job title or equivalent Federal Government job title, as determined by the Office of Administration); or Four years of professional experience in environmental engineering, and possession of a valid Engineer-in-Training certificate issued by or acceptable to the Pennsylvania State Registration Board for Professional Engineers, Land Surveyors and Geologists; or Three years of professional experience in environmental engineering, and possession of a valid Professional Engineer license issued by the Pennsylvania State Registration Board for Professional Engineers, Land Surveyors and Geologists; or Three years of professional experience in environmental engineering, and a bachelor's degree in environmental engineering or in any engineering field that includes or is supplemented by 9 credits in environmental engineering. Graduate study in environmental engineering or in a closely related field may be substituted for the required experience on a year-for-year basis.

Condition of Employment: This position requires possession of a valid driver's license. Other Requirements: PA residency requirement is currently waived for this title. You must be able to perform essential job functions.
