Position Summary
The Head Ropesย Specialist is responsible for monitoring programs and activities as set forth by the Activities Manager. The Head Ropesย Specialist also facilitates programs within GSGLA safety guidelines following the GSUSA Safety Activity Checkpoints. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, delivery of programs on the high ropes and low ropes course, creating a positive learning environment in a summer camp setting, providing guidance to Activities Specialists, and assisting with the implementation of activities, enhancing camp program, and always ensuring the safety of campers.ย
GSGLA Lakota Overnight Camp
The Girl Scouts of Greater Los Angelesย Camp Lakota is aย state of the art, recently updated residential camp. Located just 90 miles from downtown Los Angeles, this premier camp site will host a full summer camp season. The camp will focus on providing a stand-out girl-led experience for campers of all ages and communities across our 6,272 square mile footprint. The camp offers a variety of specialty activities including a high ropes challenge course, horseback riding, swimming, and archery.ย
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
- Plan, direct, and supervise a safe, innovative, and funย adventureย program.ย
- Coordinate (with the help ofย ropes specialists) schedules that meet camp goals.ย
- Evaluateย ropes specialists abilities of campers and staff.ย
- Deliverย progressive andย creativeย adventureย program activities.ย
- Train and superviseย Ropesย Specialistย specialists.ย
- Assist in the planning and implementation of staff training.ย
- Trainย ropes specialist andย campย staff inย theirย adventureย programย responsibilities.ย
- Schedule, supervise,ย and evaluateย Ropesย specialistsย to provide a safe and high-quality program.ย
- Manage the physical facilities and equipment in theย adventureย program area.ย
- Set upย rope courseย areas.ย
- Teach and monitor proper use of equipment.ย
- Conduct pre-season and end-of-season inventory, and store equipment prioritizing safety.ย
- Check equipment and report maintenance requests to property team.ย
- Conduct a daily check of equipment for safety, cleanliness, and good repair.ย
- Submit orders for equipment and supplies when needed, ensuring timely arrival of materials.ย
- Surveyย ropes courseย area daily and keep the area free of hazards and debris.ย ย
- Participate as a member of the camp staff team to deliver and supervise evening programs, special events, overnights, and other all-camp activities and camp functions.ย
- Attend all camp staff meetings.ย
- Assist in the planning of any special events at or near theย ropes courseย area.ย
- Provideย check in/out supportย andย outstanding customer service to families.ย ย
- Other duties as assigned.ย
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Must be 21 years of age or older.ย
- College/universityย degree preferred.ย
- Current certification in ropes course operation or documented experience and training.ย ย
- Prior supervision of anย adventureย program in an overnight camp setting.ย
- Must complete and pass onsite high and low ropes challenge course training.ย
- Must be able to obtain or become certified in First Aid/CPR prior to first day of work.ย
- Must submit health history form prior to first day of work.ย
- Must be committed to work the entire camp season and attend all pre-camp trainings.ย
- Ability to live onsite acting in an on-duty capacity for the duration of the camp season.ย ย

Recommended Education, Training and Experience
- Prior experience working on ropes courses or ropes course programs.
- Experience leading or instructing youth in outdoor adventure or ropes activities.
- Knowledge of ropes course safety, equipment inspection, and risk management.
- Ability to supervise and mentor staff assisting with ropes or challenge courses.
GSGLA Employee Requirements
- Comply with state-mandated reporter training
- Attend GSGLA signature events and/or other activities as assigned
- Must successfully complete a Live Scan and background check
