Overhead Crane Service Technician

  • Location: Salt Lake City, UT
  • Schedule: Full-Time | Monday-Friday | 7:30 AM - 4:00 PM
  • Compensation: $25-$40/hr DOE + $1,000 Sign-On Bonus
  • Benefits: Full Benefits Package

Position Summary

The Overhead Crane Service Technician is responsible for the inspection, maintenance, repair, and installation of overhead cranes and related equipment. The ideal candidate has strong technical skills, high attention to detail, and a commitment to safety. This role involves independent fieldwork and collaboration with technicians and clients to ensure reliable and safe crane operation.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform electrical and mechanical maintenance on automated packaging and distribution equipment.
  • Conduct preventive maintenance, inspections, repairs, and upgrades on overhead cranes, conveyors, and automated storage systems (e.g., Kardex Remstar, Dematic, Intelligrated, Hytrol).
  • Repair hoists, pneumatic, electrical, and mechanical components.
  • Read and interpret schematics to troubleshoot VFDs, contactors, fuses, and circuit boards.
  • Install and commission new crane systems and related equipment.
  • Respond promptly to service calls and customer inquiries.
  • Maintain accurate service records and documentation.
  • Collaborate with team members to diagnose and solve equipment issues.
  • Follow all safety protocols and maintain a clean work environment.
  • Provide training and technical support to clients on safe crane operation and maintenance.

Qualifications & Experience Required:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Minimum 3 years of experience as an Overhead Crane Technician or similar role.
  • Strong knowledge of mechanical and electrical systems, hydraulics, and PLCs.
  • Proficient in diagnostic tools for troubleshooting and repair.
  • Valid driver's license and clean driving record.
  • U.S. work authorization.
  • Ability to pass background check and random drug screenings.

Preferred:

  • Technical degree or certification in mechanical or electrical engineering.
  • Familiarity with multiple crane types (e.g., bridge, gantry).
  • Basic welding and fabrication skills.

Additional Requirements

  • Experience with rigging and lifting equipment (cranes, forklifts, telehandlers, etc.).
  • Ability to work at heights (ladders, scaffolding, lifts).
  • Comfortable towing and securing trailers.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Reliable, punctual, and able to work independently.
  • Willingness to work overtime, on-call rotations, and occasional travel.
  • Basic computer and data entry skills.
  • Positive attitude and commitment to company values.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to lift/move up to 100 lbs.
  • Prolonged standing, sitting, bending, pulling, kneeling, and reaching.
  • Comfortable working indoors and outdoors year-round.
  • Capable of working at elevated heights safely.
