Position Overview
The SMT Production Manager is responsible for leading daily SMT and PCBA operations while remaining actively involved on the production floor. This is not a purely administrative management role. The ideal candidate will be equally comfortable leading a team, troubleshooting equipment, improving processes, and supporting production as needed.
This position supports a growing SMT operation and supervises a small team of technicians while helping drive production performance, quality, and continuous improvement initiatives.
Key Responsibilities
Production Leadership
- Lead and support daily SMT manufacturing operations.
- Supervise, train, and mentor SMT technicians and operators.
- Promote a culture of safety, quality, accountability, and continuous improvement.
- Provide hands-on leadership and technical support on the production floor.
SMT Process Management
- Oversee SMT production activities including setup, programming, and execution.
- Support solder paste printing, pick-and-place operations, AOI inspection, and reflow processes.
- Monitor production performance and identify opportunities for process improvements.
- Ensure production schedules and customer delivery requirements are achieved.
Equipment & Troubleshooting
- Troubleshoot SMT equipment, process issues, and production challenges.
- Support preventive maintenance efforts to maximize equipment uptime.
- Work closely with engineering and production teams to resolve manufacturing issues quickly.
Quality & Continuous Improvement
- Drive improvements in quality, throughput, and overall equipment effectiveness (OEE).
- Conduct root cause analysis and implement corrective actions.
- Ensure compliance with IPC standards and internal quality requirements.
- Support New Product Introduction (NPI) activities and production readiness efforts.
Qualifications
Required
- Experience in SMT manufacturing and PCB assembly environments.
- Experience with:
- Solder Paste Printing
- Pick-and-Place Equipment
- AOI Inspection
- Reflow Processes
- Strong troubleshooting and root cause analysis skills.
- Leadership experience supervising production personnel.
- Familiarity with IPC standards and manufacturing best practices.
- Experience supporting BOM updates, production programming, or process setup activities.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced, evolving manufacturing environment.
Preferred
- Experience within electronics manufacturing, PCB fabrication, or PCBA assembly.
- Knowledge of MES systems.
- Continuous Improvement, Lean Manufacturing, or Six Sigma experience.
- Startup, greenfield, or facility expansion experience.
- Experience supporting NPI (New Product Introduction).
