Familiarity with electronic health records (EHR) systems and HEDIS abstraction tools is typically required, and some employers may prefer candidates with relevant certifications such as Certified Medical Records Technician (CMRT). Strong organizational skills, effective communication, and the ability to work independently help individuals excel in retrieving and reviewing sensitive health data. These skills ensure accurate data collection and reporting, which are critical for quality measurement and compliance within healthcare organizations.

What are HEDIS Retrievers?

HEDIS Retrievers are healthcare professionals responsible for collecting and reviewing medical records to gather data for the Healthcare Effectiveness Data and Information Set (HEDIS) reporting process. They work with healthcare providers and organizations to retrieve patient charts, either electronically or in-person, and ensure the information is accurate and complete for quality measurement. HEDIS Retrievers play a key role in helping health plans meet regulatory requirements and improve patient care by supporting the quality assessment process.
