Healthcare risk management refers to the process of identifying, assessing, and minimizing risks to patients, staff, and organizations within the healthcare sector. It involves implementing policies and procedures to prevent harm, ensure patient safety, and reduce legal liability. Risk managers work closely with clinical staff, administrators, and legal teams to address issues like patient safety, compliance, and incident reporting. Their goal is to create a safer healthcare environment while protecting the organization's assets and reputation.

What are healthcare risk management jobs?

Healthcare risk management jobs include working as a risk management analyst, specialist, or manager. Each job has specific duties, but your overall goal is to identify risk in potential clients or pools of clients, assess whether healthcare staff and programs are in compliance with all government regulations, and provide analysis of business decisions or changes in public health and insurance policy. As a healthcare risk manager, you have increased supervisory responsibilities and take a leadership role in coordinating and implementing risk management strategies.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive in healthcare risk management, and why are they important?

To excel in Healthcare Risk Management, you need a solid background in healthcare regulations, risk assessment, and patient safety, often supported by a degree in healthcare administration or a related field. Familiarity with risk management information systems (RMIS), incident reporting tools, and certifications such as Certified Professional in Healthcare Risk Management (CPHRM) are highly valuable. Strong analytical thinking, attention to detail, and effective communication skills are critical for identifying risks and collaborating with cross-functional teams. These competencies are essential to proactively minimize liability, enhance patient safety, and ensure regulatory compliance in healthcare organizations.

What are the biggest challenges faced by professionals in healthcare risk management roles?

Healthcare risk management professionals often navigate complex regulatory requirements while proactively identifying and mitigating potential risks to patient safety and organizational assets. One common challenge is keeping up with ever-evolving healthcare laws and accreditation standards, which requires continuous learning and adaptability. Additionally, these roles frequently involve collaborating with clinical staff, administrators, and legal teams to develop effective risk prevention strategies, making strong communication and teamwork skills essential. Balancing immediate crisis response with long-term risk reduction initiatives is also a key aspect of the job.

Job description

About Giga
Giga is building gigawatts of AI data centers to hasten a future of intelligence and abundance. We build data centers fast and at scale by combining the capabilities of an equipment supplier, engineering firm, general contractor, and real estate developer under one roof. Our team moves quickly and thinks practically. If you're ready to make an impact in an industry that matters, we're looking for people like you.
Why join Giga
  • The Pace: We're building at a speed most companies talk about but never actually operate at. If you've been bored somewhere else, you won't be here.
  • The Impact: Every person at Giga touches the work that matters. No layers, no waiting for approval chains. You'll see your fingerprints on what we ship.
  • The Team: A team of operators defining the future of AI infrastructure. We recruit A-players from the most innovative companies in the world, and they choose Giga because the work here means more.
  • The Moment: AI doesn't run without power, and that's us. Giga is the picks and shovels behind the AI revolution. This industry is about to explode, and you'll be in the room where it's already happening.

What you'll do
As Surety & Insurance Risk Manager, you'll join Giga's Risk & Insurance team, reporting directly to the Head of Risk & Insurance. You'll manage the day-to-day administration of Giga's bonding and insurance programs - including bond submissions, portfolio-wide risk reporting, and insurance program administration. This is a builder's seat: you'll help stand up the processes and systems that let the function scale as Giga grows.
Where you'll work
This role is remote - we don't care where you sit, only that you're excellent at the job. You'll travel occasionally (about 10% of the time, roughly a couple of trips per year) for company and team offsites to stay closely connected with Growth and Finance, given how tightly this role works with them.
Responsibilities
  • Manage day-to-day administration of performance bond submissions - paperwork, timelines, and status tracking across all live deals
  • Build and own portfolio-wide risk reporting - aggregate bond capacity, exposure, and insurance program status across all active and pipeline deals into a single source of truth for leadership
  • Administer corporate and project-level insurance programs - renewals, certificates of insurance, coverage tracking
  • Build and maintain the data infrastructure (bond capacity, program terms, deal history, renewal calendars) that lets the function make fast, informed decisions
  • Prepare deal-level bonding and insurance summaries for broker and surety negotiations
  • Partner with Legal, Finance, and Growth counterparts on the operational side of deal structuring
  • Build the processes, templates, and systems that will let the function scale as Giga grows
Requirements
  • 5-7+ years of experience in insurance, risk management, or performance bonds/surety
  • Working knowledge of and/or related experience with how performance bonds are underwritten, priced, and structured - insurance backgrounds with transferable skills are welcome
  • Solid understanding of corporate and project-level insurance programs
  • Bachelor's degree in Finance, Business Administration, or a related field
  • Comfortable operating with incomplete information in a fast-moving environment
Bonus points
  • Background at a surety company, insurance carrier, or brokerage
  • Experience in construction, infrastructure, or industrial/energy sectors
  • Industry-specific certifications (e.g., CPCU, ARM, surety bond producer credentials)
  • Experience helping build out a risk management function from the ground up
Benefits
  • Subsidized health, dental, and vision insurance
  • Equity (options) in a rapidly growing startup
  • 401(k) with 4% employer match
  • Unlimited PTO
  • Parental leave
  • Healthcare and Dependent Care Flexible Spending Accounts (FSA) or Health Savings Account (HSA)
  • Commuter benefits
  • Quarterly team onsites where all offices come in-person to collaborate

How We Work
We value people who take ownership, raise risks early, communicate directly, and follow through. Incomplete information is part of the job. Make the best decision you can, document it, and adjust as the facts change. Move quickly on reversible decisions and take more care when security, safety, financial, employee, or customer risk is involved.
Benefits
  • Subsidized health, dental, and vision insurance
  • Equity (options) in a rapidly growing startup
  • 401(k) with 4% employer match
  • Unlimited PTO
  • Parental leave
  • Healthcare and Dependent Care Flexible Spending Accounts (FSA) or Health Savings Account (HSA)
  • Commuter benefits, where applicable
  • Opportunities to collaborate in person at periodic team and company on-sites
