Job description

Position OverviewEarth Fare is seeking a Systems Administrator to own and advance our core IT infrastructure as we modernize to a secure, cloud-forward model. This role is critical to stabilizing day-to-day operations while driving major initiatives including cloud migration, security hardening, Windows 10 to Windows 11 modernization, and infrastructure lifecycle improvements across corporate offices and multiple retail locations.
This is not a helpdesk role. The Systems Administrator serves as the technical owner of infrastructure, identity, and security foundations and partners closely with IT leadership to reduce risk, modernize systems, and enable scalable business operations.
Key Responsibilities
Infrastructure & Core Systems
  • Administer and support core systems, Active Directory, Exchange, Group Policy, Microsoft 365, DNS, and identity services in a hybrid on-prem / cloud environment
  • Manage VPN access, certificates, authentication services, SFTP, integrations, and file systems
  • Maintain, modernize, and lifecycle-manage Windows Server infrastructure
  • Support infrastructure for corporate offices, datacenter resources, and distributed retail locations
  • Ensure system reliability, availability, and performance

Cloud & Modernization Initiatives
  • Support and execute cloud migration efforts to Microsoft 365 and Azure
  • Assist with hybrid identity architecture, including Entra ID (Azure AD)
  • Lead and support Windows 10 → Windows 11 migration, imaging and endpoint modernization initiatives
  • Support Intune, MDM, and modern provisioning approaches
  • Reduce legacy technical debt and improve scalability

Security & Risk Management
  • Enforce and improve overall infrastructure security posture
  • Implement and maintain:
    • MFA
    • Conditional access
    • Privileged access controls
    • Certificate-based authentication where required
  • Support vulnerability remediation, patching, and security incident response
  • Assist with PCI-adjacent and retail security requirements
  • Assist with incident response, escalation support, and security investigations
  • Reduce single-points-of-failure and improve business continuity

Operations & Escalation Support
  • Provide Tier III escalation support for complex infrastructure and authentication issues
  • Partner with IT support staff to resolve root-cause infrastructure problems
  • Coordinate with vendors, MSPs, and service providers
  • Maintain documentation, system diagrams, and SOPs
  • Participate in on-call escalation rotation (limited, planned)

Required Qualifications
  • 5+ years experience in a Systems Administrator or equivalent infrastructure role
  • Strong hands-on experience with:
    • Windows Server
    • Active Directory / Group Policy
    • VMware or virtualized environments
    • Networking fundamentals (firewalls, VLANs, VPNs, TCP/IP)
  • Experience supporting hybrid cloud / on-prem environments
  • Migration experience (infrastructure, OS, cloud)
  • Strong security fundamentals (identity, patching, least privilege, MFA)
  • Excellent troubleshooting, organizational, and documentation skills
  • Ability to work independently and take ownership of systems

Preferred Qualifications
  • Backup, disaster recovery, and monitoring platforms
  • Microsoft 365, Azure, Entra ID, Intune
  • PowerShell scripting and automation
  • Retail or multi-site enterprise experience
  • Database management experience
  • Prior involvement in security audits or compliance efforts
