An advanced practice provider, physician's assistant or advanced practice nurse practitioner, who has acquired appropriate training to provide mental health services to include evaluating, diagnosing, prescribing medications, and managing treatment for clients.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Perform client assessment and diagnosis for adult clients and develop a treatment plan, implement the plan and provide follow up and evaluation.
  • Complete a psychiatric assessment; which includes obtaining a relevant health and medical history and ordering pertinent diagnostic tests.
  • Provide a psychiatric diagnosis based on the multiaxial system used by the DSM-IV-TR Axis 1 -5.
  • Implement a treatment plan, which may include provision of brief psychotherapy and/or prescription of psychotropic medications.
  • Prescribe psychotropic medication and order pertinent diagnostic tests as delegated per a current written collaborative practice or supervision agreement with the Staff Psychiatrist.
  • Provides services utilizing his/her experience and ability to meet the needs of the client and the goals of treatment.
  • Carries a caseload, the size and nature of which is to be established with supervisory staff.
  • Communicates with attending physician as necessary to identify problems and establish goals and objectives for treatment.
  • Provides and/or coordinates a comprehensive follow-up to all clients for whom he/she has been responsible.
  • Is sensitive and responsible to management needs, such as data collection, program evaluation, development of grant applications, maintenance of various contracts for services, etc.
  • Participates in all required meetings.
  • Functions in accordance with Brightli Operational Guidelines and within his/her professional code of ethics.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Shall be able to establish effective relationships via telephone and personal contacts. Shall be able to follow direction and accept supervision.
  • Ability to apply common-sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports, document with a computerized clinical record and e-mail correspondence. Ability to communicate effectively before groups of residents, employees of the organization, family members and other contacts in the community.

Experience and/or Education Qualifications:

  • Must possess a Master's degree in nursing as an Adult Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner. Previous experience in the behavioral health field is preferred.
  • Physician assistants must maintain their state license and certification. Certified physician assistants must pass a recertification examination every 10 years and complete at least 100 hours of continuing medical education every 2 years.
  • APRNS must possess a Master's degree in nursing as an Adult Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner. Previous experience in the behavioral health field is preferred.
  • Must possess and maintain current licensure as a Registered Nurse in the state of Missouri, a certificate of recognition as an Advanced Practice Nurse in the state of Missouri and credentialing as an Adult Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner by a national certification body recognized by the state of Missouri.
  • Previous experience in the behavioral health field is preferred.

Supervisory Requirements:

  • None.

Employment Requirements:

  • Successful completion of background check including criminal record, driving record, abuse/neglect and fingerprint check.
  • Completion of New Hire Orientation at the beginning of employment.
  • All training requirements including Relias at the beginning of employment and annually thereafter.
  • Current driver's license, acceptable driving record and current auto insurance.

Physical Requirements:

ADA Consideration - Sedentary work: Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally (exists up the 1/3 of the time) and/or a negligible amount of force frequently (exists 1/3 to 2/3 of the time) to lift, carry, push, or pull, or otherwise move objects, including the human body. Repetitive movements of hands, fingers, and arms for typing and/or writing during work shift.

Sedentary work involves sitting most of the time but may involve walking or standing for brief periods of time. Jobs are sedentary if walking and standing are required only occasionally, and all other sedentary criteria are met.
