What is the Health Insurance Marketplace?

The Health Insurance Marketplace is a service that helps people shop for and enroll in affordable health insurance. It was created under the Affordable Care Act to provide access to health coverage for individuals, families, and small businesses. Through the Marketplace, users can compare different health plans, check if they qualify for subsidies, and enroll in coverage. Most states use the federal Marketplace at HealthCare.gov, but some states operate their own Marketplaces. Enrollment typically occurs during an annual open enrollment period, though special enrollment is available in certain circumstances.
