Artemis ARC seeks an expert Clinical Informaticist/Clinical Informatics SME with both Clinical Informatics and Human Factors experience to support the Veterans Health Administration (VHA). This pivotal role requires a profound comprehension of human centered design, human computer interaction, usability, and evaluation methodologies with the ability to translate this knowledge into actionable strategies, evaluations, and designs. The position demands expertise in applying state-of-the-art findings and methods to assess products and processes, ensuring optimal usability and performance for all end users. The aim is to enhance the usability, safety, and supportability of VA systems by analyzing design tradeoffs that affect human performance, staffing, training, and system safety, thus maximizing system efficiency and operational processes to improve veteran health outcomes.

This position plays a vital role promoting products and processes within VHA to meet the highest standards of usability, accessibility, and user satisfaction. Seeking a knowledgeable and committed SME versed in leveraging clinical informatics, while applying knowledge of human factors, to improve the lives of Veterans/caregivers for this rewarding, high impact position delivering excellent value to VHA.

Primary Responsibilities
  • Analysis and Evaluation: Utilize advanced skill and analytical techniques to plan, analyze, and evaluate the effectiveness of operational processes and technical information systems within the VHA healthcare setting and apply clinical informatics skill and expertise to enhance outcomes.
  • Operational Enhancement: Apply the latest advancements in clinical informatics, incorporating innovative research and industry best practices. Provide expert guidance and make thoughtful suggestions, including during cross functional team calls, reacting adeptly to client needs. Champion human centered design, resilience engineering, and Safety-II concepts in daily work promoting systems level approaches.
  • Usability Assessments: Deliver comprehensive reviews of products and procedures to pinpoint areas for enhancement, offering recommendations for redesigns or adjustments to reduce any adverse effects on users.
  • User-Centric Design: Visualize and anticipate the effects of design changes on diverse user groups, ensuring inclusivity and accessibility in all aspects of product development.User Experience Research: Utilize both qualitative and quantitative methodologies to guide design choices and enhance operational effectiveness.  
  • Risk Identification and Mitigation: Identify potential risks associated with information system implementation and operation, developing and continuously improving strategies to mitigate risks and support program success.
  • Competency Development: Apply knowledge of adult learning theories and learning engineering principles to advance the maturity of the informatics workforce.
  • Communication and Collaboration: Clearly convey clinical informatics and human factors considerations to cross-functional (matrixed) teams through both formal and informal channels, facilitating collaboration and promoting shared understanding among all stakeholders.  Serve as a valued member of a geographically and professionally diverse team with a common goal.
  • Compliance and Standards: Maintain a thorough understanding of relevant standards and clinical informatics practice, ensuring adherence to regulatory requirements and industry best practices.
  • Agile Methodologies: Demonstrate proficiency in SAFe's Lean Agile principles and practices, driving value and operational excellence through the empowerment of high-performing Agile teams.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Master's degree focused on Health Informatics or a related field.
  • Minimum of five (5) years of experience in clinical informatics or a closely related field, with a focus on improving health outcomes through system/product design and evaluation.
  • Deep understanding of clinical informatics principles, methodologies, and standards.
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to articulate complex concepts, recommendations, and risks to diverse audiences and stakeholders at all levels.
  • Experience with SAFe's Lean Agile principles and practices, with a demonstrated ability to drive organizational change and foster operational excellence through Agile methodologies.
Desired Qualifications
  • Experience supporting the VA or VHA highly desired (preference for recent or current VA suitability clearance).
  • Public Trust clearance eligibility and U.S. work authorization required.
  • Clinician with work experience in a health care delivery system (e.g., nurse, allied health professional, physician, etc.)
  • Advanced degree (doctoral) in Clinical area, Informatics, or a related field
  • Professional certification(s), such as AMIA Health Informatics certification (ACHIP), ANCC Nursing Informatics, Certified Professional in Healthcare Information and Management Systems (CPHIMS), or other professional recognition (e.g., FAMIA)
  • Competency Development Frameworks, Adult Learning and Instructional System Design background or similar experience
  • Project Management training and/or certification
