Job description

Overview

The Informatics Pharmacy Specialist uses knowledge of information technology (IT), automation systems and medication-use process to improve patient care by supporting technologies that lead to safer, more cost-effective medication use. This role includes automation and technology systems management, management of projects, and training and education. The Informatics Pharmacy Specialist supports pharmacists, physicians, nurses, and other healthcare team members as the resource for requests related to pharmacy system changes. The position requires thorough knowledge of pharmacy practice, pharmacy automation, clinical information systems, and pharmacy computer systems. This position will collaborate with the Clinical Informatics Committee members to maintain system reliability and compliance with regulatory requirements, contributing to safe and timely medication delivery. Performs critical clinical duties in collaboration with the Clinical Informatics team, which includes but is not limited to, managing medication safety configurations across the facility, supporting and optimizing pharmacy applications to ensure accurate medication workflows, managing updates related to medication builds, formulary adjustments, order set builds, medication billing and other regulatory and clinical changes that directly impact patient care and safety throughout the medication use process. Performs other duties and projects as assigned.

Qualifications

Education: Entry-level pharmacy degree (e.g., B.Sc, Pharm.D) from an accredited college of pharmacy and successful completion of any of the following: a Pharmacy Informatics Certificate Course [required to be completed within 6 months of hire], an ASHP accredited PGY-1 or PGY-2 residency, or has a Board of Pharmacy Specialty Certification in Pharmacy Informatics.

Experience: Preference given to candidates who have completed a pharmacy pracitice residency and 3 years or more in clinical pharmacy service.

Licenses/Certificates: Pharmacist licensure in Alabama or eligibility for licensure via examination or reciprocity
