Health Assistants are healthcare professionals who support doctors, nurses, and other medical staff in providing patient care. Their duties often include taking vital signs, preparing examination rooms, assisting with basic medical procedures, and helping patients with daily activities. Health Assistants work in a variety of settings such as hospitals, clinics, and long-term care facilities. They play a crucial role in ensuring the smooth operation of healthcare environments and improving patient comfort and safety.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Health Assistant, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Health Assistant, you need a solid understanding of basic patient care, first aid, and medical terminology, often supported by a high school diploma or a certified nursing assistant (CNA) credential. Familiarity with electronic health record (EHR) systems, vital sign monitoring devices, and basic medical equipment is typically required. Home Health Physical Therapist Assistant

Suru In-Home Physical Therapy

Job description

About the Role
Suru In-Home Physical Therapy is hiring a licensed Physical Therapist Assistant (PTA) to provide in-home visits for patients who need continued therapy support in their day-to-day environment.
We are not a traditional home health agency. Suru provides outpatient therapy in the home, which means clinicians often work with more consistent patients, build longer treatment relationships, and have more flexibility in how care is delivered than in short episodic home health models.
Why Clinicians Like This Model
  • Outpatient in-home model: This is outpatient care delivered in the home, not traditional home health.
  • More visits: We typically allow more visits than traditional home health.
  • More consistent patients: You can often work with the same patients over a longer period of time instead of short home health episodes.
  • More flexible scheduling and frequency: The model gives clinicians more flexibility in scheduling and does not require rigid by-the-book visit frequency the way home health often does.
  • Fast notes: We use voicemail and voice-recording workflows for notes, and documentation usually takes about one minute per visit.
  • Clear pay timing: Once a visit and note are completed, payment goes by direct deposit on the next payday. Suru pays twice per month.
  • No obligation case model: You can accept or decline patients at your discretion and choose to keep a patient for as long or as little as you want.
  • Clinician-focused operations: We handle intake and billing so you can stay focused on patient care.
Responsibilities
  • Provide in-home physical therapy treatment under the direction of the supervising Physical Therapist.
  • Help patients improve mobility, gait, balance, strength, transfers, endurance, and overall functional independence.
  • Reinforce home exercise programs and educate patients and caregivers on carryover strategies and safe movement.
  • Observe patient response to treatment and communicate changes in status, function, pain, or safety to the supervising Physical Therapist.
  • Document visits clearly, accurately, and on time.
  • Maintain a professional, compassionate, and reliable experience for patients and families.
Requirements
  • Active California Physical Therapist Assistant license.
  • Business license or willingness to obtain one if needed for contractor setup.
  • Reliable transportation and willingness to travel within assigned coverage areas.
  • Strong communication, documentation, and time-management skills.
  • Comfort working independently in patient homes while collaborating closely with the supervising Physical Therapist.
Compensation
Competitive contract compensation based on experience and visit mix.
Job Type: Part-time, Contract
