What is psychiatry wellness?

Psychiatry wellness refers to a holistic approach in psychiatric care that focuses not only on treating mental health disorders but also on promoting overall well-being. This can include the integration of therapy, medication management, lifestyle changes, and preventive strategies to support mental, emotional, and sometimes physical health. Psychiatry wellness aims to help individuals achieve a balanced and fulfilling life by addressing stress, coping skills, and self-care alongside traditional psychiatric treatments. This approach is often personalized to meet the unique needs of each patient.

How does a psychiatry wellness professional typically collaborate with other healthcare providers to support patient care?

Psychiatry wellness professionals often work closely with a multidisciplinary team that may include psychologists, primary care physicians, social workers, and therapists. Collaboration involves regular case discussions, shared treatment planning, and coordinated follow-up to ensure comprehensive care for patients. This team-based approach helps address both mental and physical health needs, promotes continuity of care, and enables early identification of challenges that may require adjustments to treatment strategies.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a psychiatry wellness professional, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Psychiatry Wellness professional, you need a solid background in mental health assessment, diagnostic skills, and evidence-based therapeutic interventions, typically supported by a medical or psychology degree and appropriate licensure. Familiarity with electronic health records (EHRs), telepsychiatry platforms, and standardized mental health assessment tools is important. Exceptional interpersonal skills, empathy, and resilience are crucial for building trust with patients and managing challenging clinical scenarios. These competencies ensure effective patient care, accurate diagnoses, and sustained therapeutic relationships in diverse mental health settings.

Job description

Part-Time Psychiatrist
Orange & Long Beach, CA

We’re hiring a Part-Time Psychiatrist who wants meaningful work with complex psychiatric populations, strong interdisciplinary support, and a schedule that leaves room for life outside of medicine.

You’ll step into an outpatient role focused on psychiatric evaluations, medication management, and longitudinal recovery for adults with severe mental illness. You’ll have the support of a multidisciplinary team while maintaining meaningful clinical autonomy and protected administrative time.

Why this role is compelling

• Part-time schedule with benefits eligibility at 24+ hours per week
• No call, evenings, or weekends
• 6–7 hours of direct patient care per day plus 1 protected administrative hour
• Panel of up to 130 patients across PHP, IOP, and maintenance care
• 60-minute evaluations and 30-minute follow-ups
• Integrated psychiatry, therapy, primary care, nutrition, and community support
• Primarily onsite with some virtual consultations
• Focus on longitudinal recovery rather than high-volume medication management

What makes you a great fit

• You are Board Certified or Board Eligible in Psychiatry
• You’re comfortable treating adults with severe and complex mental illness
• You value longitudinal recovery and patient-centered psychiatric care
• You’re comfortable supervising advanced practice clinicians
• You hold or can obtain required California medical licensure and DEA registration
• You hold or can obtain required Clozapine REMS credentials
• You value collaboration within an interdisciplinary behavioral health team

Compensation & Benefits

• Base salary: $300,000–$330,000 FTE, prorated for part-time hours
• Up to 5% team-performance bonus
• Additional individual productivity incentive
• Medical, dental & vision insurance for eligible providers
• PTO: 10 days in Year 1, prorated for part-time
• Paid sick time
• 11 paid holidays plus 4 Wellness Days
• Retirement: 401(k) plan with provider matching beginning in 2027
• Malpractice insurance coverage, including tail coverage if policies change
• Sign-on bonus and relocation assistance negotiable on a case-by-case basis

If you want a Part-Time Psychiatrist role where complex psychiatric care comes with strong clinical support, protected time, and meaningful work-life balance, this is worth a conversation.
