The Assistant CTO supports the Company’s technology roadmap. This position helps to ensure that our technology investments align with our business objectives and growth plans. This person will also help evaluate emerging technologies to improve network performance, reliability and customer experience. Provides strategic and operational management of Blue Ridge Communications' technology infrastructure, including headend operations, fiber networks, construction activities, and emerging technology initiatives. This role works closely with Engineering, Training, and Operations teams to ensure the reliability, scalability, and performance of network services and facilities.

Primary Responsibilities include:
  • Overseeing and providing leadership for Headend Operations and Construction Departments
  • Developing and maintaining technical standards
  • Collaborating with Engineering and Training departments on projects and technology initiatives
  • Researching, designing, implementing, and overseeing installations and upgrades of headend facilities, including:
    • Generators
    • DC power plants
    • HVAC systems
    • Fire suppression systems
    • Building infrastructure and maintenance
  • Maintaining an advanced technical understanding of Blue Ridge technologies and services, including DOCSIS and PON headend and plant equipment, and IP transport/backbone infrastructure
  • Developing and implementing fiber network processes, procedures, and solutions
  • Researching, evaluating, and deploying new and emerging fiber technologies
  • Establishing and maintaining fiber network standards and best practices
  • Providing technical leadership and expertise across all aspects of fiber network operations
  • Delivering training and technical support to employees
  • Support troubleshooting fiber network issues and outages, and leading root cause and post event analysis
  • Managing the PA One Call (811) system and related Pennsylvania Public Utility Commission (PUC) requirements
  • Leading and managing time-sensitive projects while ensuring completion within established timelines and budgets
  • Managing strategic vendor relationships and addressing concerns in a timely manner
  • Other duties as assigned by management

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Networking Technology, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Telecommunications, or a related field; or Minimum of 10 years of relevant telecommunications industry experience
  • Established residency in Pennsylvania
  • Valid PA Driver's License and good driving record
  • Strong understanding of commercial generator and DC power plant operations
  • Expertise in fiber splicing, troubleshooting, and interpretation of splice documentation and splice sheets
  • Experience in cable and fiber construction, including leadership or management responsibilities
  • Experience reading and interpreting construction blueprints, fiber splice sheets, and technical documentation
  • Experience with service provider hardware, software, and network monitoring platforms
  • Experience leading cross-functional technical and operational teams
  • Working knowledge of HFC networks, RF spectrum management, and cable headend configurations
  • Knowledge of telecommunications regulatory requirements and industry best practices
  • Excellent project management and organizational skills
  • Strong Troubleshooting and Problem-Solving Skills
  • Exceptional Communication Skills - Oral and Written
  • Ability to lead teams and collaborate effectively across departments
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment
