Job description

Meta's global network, comprised of cutting-edge platforms, is looking for a Network Engineering Manager to join the Backbone and Edge Engineering team focused on our Software Defined Express Backbone Network. This team is responsible for designing, implementing and supporting one of the world's largest and most cutting edge networks. In this role, you will work closely with other engineers with a wide variety of deep technical expertise in software, systems, IP, and Optical networking to drive forward innovation and expansion of our network.
Responsibilities
Be a highly technical manager
• Hold your own in technical discussions, be a subject matter expert, and have strategic influence
• Help define and drive regular development of the technical roadmap to meet the needs of the team, and partner teams
• Operate in a rapidly evolving environment, adapting quickly to new information and re-prioritizing as needed
• Manage engineers working to design, build, scale, deploy, and support networks and systems for our Express Backbone network infrastructure
• Partner closely with Facebook backbone, edge, data center, and hardware network engineering teams and other software infrastructure teams
• Manage and develop a team of engineers
• Help engineers develop their careers, assigning them to projects tailored to their skill levels, long-term skill development, and career goals
• Assess employee performance frequently, address under-performance, and recognize and promote excellent performance
• Work closely with dedicated recruiting staff to expand the team, including sourcing candidates, interviewing candidates, participating in conferences/events, and onboarding new employees
• Communicate cross-functionally and drive engineering efforts
Minimum Qualifications
• Experience managing a networking-related software engineering team
• Knowledge of networking and distributed systems
• Experience in network management systems for large-scale networks
• BS or MS in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related technical discipline or equivalent experience
• Experience recruiting and managing technical teams, including performance management and managing engineers
• Knowledge of networking fundamentals
Preferred Qualifications
• Experience adhering to and implementing responsible, ethical AI practices (e.g., risk assessment, bias mitigation, quality and accuracy reviews)

• Knowledge of network topology and capacity planning methodologies
• Demonstrated ongoing AI skill development (e.g., prompt/context engineering, agent orchestration) and staying current with emerging AI technologies

• Experience in software development and engineering for network control and management
