Stipend $5,150 -payable per stipend schedule
Summary
The Department Head will support the School's mission and be instrumental in facilitating the implementation of organizational and instructional strategies at the department level, within a specified content area. The Department Head will not directly supervise any professional staff
but will serve in the role of subject matter expert within the assigned content area and be responsible for ensuring that the department's strategies align with the overall mission and vision of the organization.
The incumbent in this position will be responsible for the investment of additional time outside of his/her regular work schedule/hours to satisfactorily meet the expectations of the position.
Essential Duties
  • Analyze and disseminate data benchmark assessments, standardized test scores, PVAAS, and other course-related data.
  • Work with teachers to create common formative assessments in order to guide instruction.
  • Utilize sound data analysis to identify departmental strengths and weaknesses.
  • Propose appropriate data-driven goals and strategies to capitalize on strengths and close achievement gaps.
  • Ensure students are prepared to be successful on standardized tests (English, Math, Science).
  • Review and give weekly feedback on lesson plans to colleagues.
  • Stay abreast of the latest research and legislation related to the content; identify appropriate professional development opportunities and encourage participation of teachers.
  • Lead the department to implement effective instructional strategies to meet department goals.
  • Assist in the scheduling of and participate in new teacher onboarding and teacher professional development.
  • Attend regular meetings with other department heads to enhance. cross-departmental collaboration and explore co-curricular strategies that will continue to enhance the educational experience for 21CCCS students.
  • Serve as a resource for teachers within the department.
  • Conduct peer-to-peer observations and work with members to increase student engagement.
  • Communicate departmental needs and growth regularly to Administration.
  • Meet with new departmental teachers during their orientation process.
  • Ensure coverage in the department's virtual office (VO), live chat, and lunch duty.
  • Ensure great customer service is provided to students in the VO.
  • Ensure all appropriate approvals for new resources are obtained by working closely with the Administrative Team.
  • Provide input to Administration regarding teacher course assignments.
  • Work with Principals to help develop the budget.
  • Coordinate the quarterly community outreach expectations with your members and provide updates to administration.
  • Work with department members on a quarterly basis and create plans to help failing students be successful.
  • Actively participate in interviews of new staff.
  • Participate in PTCs as assigned by the supervisor.
  • Attend Department Head summer planning meeting as needed.
  • Attend New Teacher Training.
  • Review IEP's as assigned by supervisor (Special Education Dept. Head).
  • Serve as the LEA for IEP meetings as assigned by the supervisor (Special Education Dept. Head).
  • Use creative thinking and ability to seek innovative solutions to problems.
  • Complete other duties as assigned by administration.

Qualifications
  • Excellent data analysis skills.
  • Strong organizational and communication skills (both verbal and written).
  • Ability to motivate/lead teams and individuals in conjunction with Administration. Master's degree preferred.
  • Successful completion of the School's induction program; satisfactory (or better) annual evaluations for the prior two (2) years.
