Job description

Head of Platform (permanent position) โ€“ Austin, TX vicinity

Our client is building the Human Operating System! The technology is an adaptive intelligence system that senses, interprets and trains human performance in real time. The platform ingests multimodal bio signals, estimates human state, executes closed-loop adaptation, and continuously learns across individuals and populations. It powers every training experience today and forms the foundation for a programmable ecosystem in the future.

The VP, Platform is the architectural and technical owner of our clientโ€™s adaptive runtime system, currently implemented within a VR-based software environment. This is a permanent, equity-based position in Austin, TX and offers a competitive base salary and great benefits. No visa sponsorship or subcontracting arrangements are available.

The Role: VP, Platform / Software
This role is responsible for scaling and hardening a real-time, multimodal, closed-loop intelligence system that integrates biosignal processing, AI-driven state modeling, and adaptive training inside an immersive VR runtime.
You will lead the evolution of a tightly integrated VR-based adaptive system into a modular, scalable platform architecture while ensuring performance, reliability, and production-grade AI/ML deployment.
Core Responsibilities
Adaptive System Architecture
  • Architect and scale a real-time multimodal adaptive runtime system
  • Define system boundaries across signal processing, state modeling, runtime execution, and interfaces
  • Guide the evolution from integrated VR implementation to modular platform services
AI/ML & Personalization Infrastructure
  • Own state modeling, personalization engines, and reinforcement learning systems
  • Define model lifecycle management (training, validation, versioning, deployment, monitoring)
  • Prevent model drift and ensure safe adaptation at scale
Data Integrity & Governance
  • Establish end-to-end data integrity standards across ingestion, processing, storage, and reporting
  • Define data schemas, validation pipelines, and reproducibility standards
  • Ensure healthcare-aligned data governance, security, and compliance readiness
Population Learning & Experimentation
  • Build structured experimentation frameworks
  • Own cross-user analytics infrastructure
  • Ensure statistical rigor in state scoring and outcome validation
Platform & API Strategy
  • Develop APIs and tooling that enable configurable and future creator-built experiences
  • Define clear boundaries between intelligence services and interface layers
  • Drive the long-term roadmap from product-integrated system to programmable platform
Team & Technical Leadership
  • Lead and scale multidisciplinary engineering teams (VR, backend, ML)
  • Establish engineering standards and architectural discipline
  • Translate long-term platform vision into phased execution
Required Experience
  • 10+ years of engineering leadership, including ownership of large-scale platform architecture
  • Experience architecting and shipping real-time, state-driven or event-driven systems (e.g., AR/VR, gaming engines, robotics, autonomous systems, health tech, or similar)
  • Production experience deploying AI/ML systems, including model lifecycle management (training, validation, versioning, monitoring)
  • Experience integrating AI/ML into user-facing products, not just research environments
  • Experience designing multimodal or high-frequency data systems (sensor data, streaming data, telemetry, etc.)
  • Proven ability to modulate tightly integrated systems into scalable, service-oriented architecture
  • Experience building and scaling multidisciplinary engineering teams (backend, ML, client, data)
  • Strong systems thinking with demonstrated ability to define clean architectural boundaries
