What does a head of ops do?

A Head of Operations oversees the daily activities and strategic planning of a company's operations to ensure efficiency and effectiveness. They manage teams, optimize processes, and implement policies, often using tools like project management software, and require strong leadership and organizational skills.

What are some of the main challenges a Head of Ops faces when aligning operations with overall business strategy?

One of the primary challenges for a Head of Ops is ensuring that operational processes and initiatives are closely aligned with the company's strategic objectives. This often involves balancing efficiency improvements with the flexibility needed to adapt to market changes, as well as fostering cross-departmental collaboration to break down silos. Additionally, Heads of Ops frequently manage large teams and must implement scalable systems that support both current needs and future growth. Staying agile while maintaining operational excellence is key to overcoming these challenges.

The hierarchy depends on the company's structure, but generally, a GM is considered higher than an Ops Manager. The Head of Operations may oversee Ops Managers and report to senior leadership or the GM, depending on the organization.

Today, more than 30,000 experts in our network collectively earn over $3 million a day.
Mercor is creating a new category of work where expertise powers AI advancement. Achieving this requires an ambitious, fast-paced and deeply committed team.
