Job description

Description
As a part of the retail team, the Retail Buyer will support Taos Ski Valley, Inc's Resort Services in the development and procurement of a merchandise assortments that excite our clients and drives strong financial results. By supervising product assortments, sales plans, and inventory management for assigned merchandise departments, you have the ability to achieve sales, margin, inventory, and turnover goals while helping the long-term strategy of our retail team. This position reports directly to the Head Buyer. The Retail Buyer also works closely with the Store Manager on merchandising and product displays. A Buyer II is expected to step into a supervisor role in any Resort Services workspace as needed. We're looking for someone who has a good eye for style and trends to support our buying process, business strategies, and company goals.
Buyer II is a supervisory level position with responsibility for overall coordination of specific categories. Frequently it serves as supervisor for associate-level buying, clerical and retail staff. Assignments often involve complex and costly projects. Possesses wide and broad levels of knowledge and experience, works with a high degree of independence. May serve a vital role on committee to acquire, purchase, or design a major item.

Essential Job Responsibilities:
  • Supervise the development, procurement, receiving and processing of specific soft-good, souvenir, gift, lifestyle and technical apparel categories as assigned.
  • Vendor communication and identify new opportunities for growth.
  • Produce reports to analyze sales trends, project merchandise requirements for assigned departments, and plan purchases and delivery schedules to maintain a timely and constant flow of inventory.
  • Work closely with the Head Buyer, Hard Goods Buyer and Store Manager to balance store inventories and build store merchandising models to maximize individual store performance.
  • Communicate with store management regarding store inventories and assist with product knowledge clinics for sales teams.
  • Supervise movement of inventory from warehouse to retail spaces.
  • Leverage client/staff feedback to build product assortments with a data driven mindset.
  • Support Buying Team preparation for trade shows with vendor reports.
  • Assists on the sales floor at peak times.
  • Attend and engage in training for professional development.
  • Reliable attendance on all scheduled workdays.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications/Knowledge:
  • 4 years' minimum retail or related buying experience required.
  • 3 years' snowsports or related industry experience preferred.
  • Intermediate level alpine skiing proficiency preferred.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook required.
  • Retail point-of-sale and inventory management software experience.
  • Proficiency in retail math.
  • Ability to prioritize and perform multiple functions simultaneously in a high-pressure environment and on strict deadlines.
  • Demonstrates experience appropriately handling differences, both internally and/or with guests.
  • Ability to review financial information for accuracy and identify problem areas.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule including weekends, holidays and evenings.

Work Environment:
Must be able to work in a fast-paced environment. TSVI is located in a high-altitude alpine environment. Position may require moving on uneven, snow packed, or icy terrain and may be exposed to wet, cold and/or humid conditions. Travel may be required during trade shows.
Physical Demands of Position Include:
50% of time spent sitting at a computer or POS. 25% of time spent standing/walking. 25% of time spent moving objects - often lifting 10-25lbs, rarely up to 50lbs, and using a dolly.

Positions dealing with children, of safety sensitive and/or confidential nature, require driving or positions that handle cash may require a background check and MVR check. Employment is contingent upon a favorable background check and MVR check.
