Job description

Environmental Compliance Specialist

Your Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide environmental compliance and hazardous waste handling services as directed IAW Air Force Instruction, local HW Management Plan, and federal and state regulations
  • Pick-up, delivery, and transportation of Heavy Hazardous Waste Drums to/from designated sites in all weather conditions
  • Use a drum dolly to move containerized waste
  • Operate a forklift, gasoline powered pump, pressure washer, and flatbed pickup
  • Conduct both visual and documented inspections of all containers at Waste Facility
  • Take samples of waste for chemical analysis
  • Conduct inventories and audits
  • Other duties as assigned by Supervisor

Essential Job Requirements:

  • Must be able to obtain a Common Access Card (CAC) and other credentials, as required.
  • High School Diploma required
  • The ability to communicate effectively with supervisors, co-workers, and clients.
  • Must pass a medical fitness exam and respirator fit test.
  • Must be able to lift heavy objects weighing up to 75 lbs. and stand for up to 2 hours at a time.
  • Ability to don and wear required personal protective equipment (PPE).
  • Basic understanding of hazardous materials and SDS (Safety Data Sheets).
  • Must have or be able to obtain a commercial driver's license w/ H class endorsement.
  • Computer skills, to include working knowledge of Microsoft Office products
  • Forklift experience desirable; must pass forklift operator skills evaluation

Additional Preferred Skills:

  • Experience with Enterprise Environmental Safety and Occupational Health Management Information System – Hazardous Waste Module (EESOH-MIS HW)
  • Experience in management and handling of hazardous waste
  • Knowledge of RCRA, OSHA, and DOT regulations
  • Ability to analyze and interpret basic chemical analysis results and QC
  • 40-hour Hazardous Waste Operations and Emergency Response (HAZWOPER) certificate
  • Experience working at military installations and industrial operations
  • Commercial Driver's License (CDL) w/ H class endorsement
