Description
Assists the Program Manager with day-to-day general management of the program; provides oversight to ensure Direct Support Professionals (DSP) are properly trained and prepared to meet the needs of the individuals served at the program. Responsibilities and requirements apply to Certified and Non-certified Day Hab programs, Community Hab, Specialized Day Hab and Pre-Vocational programs.
POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Makes decisions based on the NYS DSP Code of Ethics and Agency's mission, vision and values and holds team to the same standards; serves as a role model upholding the core behaviors in the Agency's Living the Mission statement; consistently displays ethical decision making.
2. Promotes Person Centered Planning, considering the dreams and goals of individuals being served using Personal Outcome Measures (POMs) and knowledge of person-centered practices and tools.
3. Assesses ability of skill sets of persons served through observation and monitoring of daily documentation, to determine support needs.
4. Assist with onsite training as well as day-to-day coaching and mentoring of DSPs in alignment with the NYS Competencies.
5. Assists with staff scheduling and shift assignments to ensure safety and minimum staffing patterns are always met.
6. Responsible for providing ongoing coaching and mentoring for continued growth and development of DSPs.
7. Performs as a DSP as needed, including providing transportation, managing behaviors and using authorized SCIP techniques when necessary.
8. Stays informed regarding state and OPWDD regulations that impact the health, safety and welfare needs of individuals who receive services to best advocate for the person.
9. Evaluates medical needs of persons served through observation and communication with those providing services and communicates such needs to Manager.
10. Reviews all documentation and ensures required documentation for billing is present and accurate by following regulations and agency policy and procedures.
11. Responsible for daily management of and compliance with Personal Ledgers.
12. Responsible for keeping inventory of program supplies and personal items needed for the program participants; advising manager when replenishing is needed.
13. Audits weekly needs of the site and individuals, including supplies, maintenance repairs, issues with Agency vehicles, and reports to Manager.
14. Assists in training staff regarding plans for individuals.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
Assists with overseeing and training all Direct Support Professionals assigned to the program.
WORKING CONDITIONS
1. Will support other day hab programs as needed.
2. Hours worked may be hours outside of normal business hours to attend life plan meetings and trainings, and/or to manage emergency situations.
3. Local travel required approximately 25% of the time.
Requirements
1. Education and Experience Requirements
a. High School Diploma/GED
b. Six months of full-time experience in OPWDD setting.
c. Experience with individuals with challenging behaviors and/or dual diagnosis in residential settings
2. Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities
a. Knowledge of developmental disabilities.
b. Good oral and written communication skills and basic computer skills.
c. The ability to read and write case notes as well as understand written directions.
d. The ability to self-initiate, organize, schedule and analyze tasks.
3. Certifications - Must be or become within introductory period:
a. Medication Administration Certification requirements
i. Certified Day Habilitation programs only
b. CPR/First Aid certified requirements
i. All programs.
c. SCIP-R requirements
i. Full SCIP-R certified: Certified Day Hab and Specialized Day Hab programs.
ii. SCIP-R Core certified: Community Day Hab programs
iii. SCIP-R Core certified: Pre-Vocational programs
4. Verifications and Screenings
a. OPWDD clearance for convictions of criminal offenses.
b. County criminal background check.
a. Clearance through NYS Central Child Abuse and Maltreatment Register.
b. A drug screen prior to the commencement of employment.
c. Tuberculosis screening started or completed prior to the commencement of employment.
d. Approval of NYS Justice Center.
2. Be authorized as an Agency Driver by
a. Holding and maintaining a valid NYS Driver's License.
b. Maintaining an approved driving record according to Agency Policy and Procedure.
3. Physical and Mental Requirements
a. Seeing, hearing, walking, sitting, standing, driving, stooping, bending, carrying, stretching, and climbing stairs as well as the ability to perform all required movements required by the SCIP-R curriculum.
b. Lifting up to fifty (50) pounds.
c. Exercising independent judgment, concentrating, thinking, communicating, interacting with others, managing multiple tasks and coping with stressful situations and deadlines.
d. Staying awake and alert while on duty.
