Adult Education -  HVAC Instructor

GENERAL STATEMENT
OF JOB:
Dutchess BOCES' Adult Learning Institute is looking for qualified HVAC technicians who would like to teach adult students who have an interest in starting a career in the HVAC field; specifically, Oil Burner Heating.  There are three classes in the HVAC program including Safety, Motors and Controls and Electricity for careers in HVAC, Air Conditioning/Refrigerants, and Oil Burner Heating.  Each course ranges from approximately 100 to 120 hours, are schedule two to three evenings per week for 3-4 hours per night, and last two to three months each. Teachers may move with an assigned cohort of students or be assigned to one of the courses in the HVAC sequence.

QUALIFICATIONS, 
EXPERIENCE AND 
COMPETENCIES:    
The ideal candidate will have 8 or more years of experience in the HVAC field with a high school/GED diploma (associate's degree preferred), but the right candidate's experience level and certifications will be considered.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS
AND ABILITIES
DUTIES AND 
RESPONSIBILITIES:
The chosen candidate will teach foundational skills and prepare HVAC students for entry level positions in the HVAC field.  The course includes lecture, hands on lab time, and book work with the expectation that students understand both theory and application of concepts and skills in the HVAC field. Teachers will plan and implement instruction, tests, and design tasks.  They will track and monitor student learning and attendance in the course including test and skills assessments. S/he will work with the Career Counselors to ensure adult students are prepared for career entry, not only in job skills, but with the soft skills that are needed to be successful in a position. These skills include communication, resume building, and team work, among others.

SALARY: $35- $40 per hour (depending on experience)
