What is an HRT?

HRT typically stands for Human Resources Team or Human Resources Technician, depending on the organization. This role involves assisting with HR functions such as recruitment, employee relations, benefits administration, and compliance with labor laws. HRT professionals support HR managers by maintaining employee records, coordinating onboarding, and handling payroll or benefits inquiries. Strong communication, organization, and knowledge of HR policies are crucial for success in this role.

What are some common challenges faced by HR professionals in their daily work?

HR professionals often navigate challenges such as balancing employee advocacy with organizational objectives, managing sensitive employee relations issues, and keeping up-to-date with constantly changing labor laws. They regularly handle confidential information, mediate conflicts, and work under tight deadlines during peak recruitment periods or organizational changes. Adaptability, strong communication, and a solution-oriented mindset are crucial in overcoming these hurdles. Being prepared for these challenges can help HR professionals build trust within the organization and foster a positive work environment.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive in the HRT position, and why are they important?

To thrive in an HR (Human Resources) role, you need a solid understanding of employment laws, recruitment processes, and HR best practices, typically supported by a degree in human resources, business administration, or a related field. Familiarity with HR information systems (HRIS), payroll software, and certification such as SHRM-CP or PHR can be highly beneficial. Strong interpersonal skills, problem-solving abilities, and discretion make a candidate stand out in HR positions. These skills ensure effective talent management, employee relations, and compliance within the organization.

Job description

Hudson River Trading (HRT) is seeking a Campus Sourcer to join our Recruiting team in NYC. In this role you will focus on sourcing the strongest technical talent at top universities to ensure HRT continuously attracts exceptional talent. You will own the top of our campus funnel by mapping where the best emerging STEM students come from, building meaningful relationships on campus, and planning and hosting campus events to build our pipelines from the bottom up.
The ideal candidate is energized by finding standout talent early, understands what signals strong potential in technical candidates, and enjoys building relationships with students, faculty, and campus organizations. This is a high-impact opportunity for someone who is excited to shape how top campus talent connects with HRT. If you love owning something from start to finish, providing a high touch, white-glove experience, and have a passion for campus recruiting - we want to meet you!
Responsibilities
  • Develop and execute sourcing strategies to identify exceptional STEM talent
  • Cultivate relationships with and engage high-potential students through proactive outreach, personalized communication, and ongoing relationship management
  • Map university ecosystems to identify emerging talent pools, influential faculty, student organizations, and technical communities
  • Build and maintain relationships with professors, career centers, student leaders, and campus organizations to strengthen HRT's presence and talent pipeline
  • Plan, coordinate, and represent HRT at campus events, conferences, and on campus programming to strengthen HRT's presence and talent pipeline.
  • Drive process improvements across campus recruiting operations. "Make it Better" is one of HRT's core values. You will identify opportunities to streamline recruiting workflows, improve the candidate experience, and enhance pipeline management and academic engagement while serving as a trusted point of contact for HRT.

Qualifications
  • 2+ years of sourcing or full lifecycle recruiting, with real exposure to hiring technical talent in technology or quantitative finance
  • A proven track record of building and executing sourcing strategies that surface hard to find campus or early career candidates
  • Familiarity with the technical talent landscape, including top computer science, mathematics, statistics, and engineering programs, competitive programming communities, and research communities
  • Experience building and maintaining relationships with universities, faculty, career centers, and student organizations
  • Strong proficiency with ATS and CRM platforms, plus comfort using analytics and reporting tools to drive decisions
  • Exceptional organization, communication, and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to manage multiple pipelines and candidate relationships at once
  • Collaborative, thoughtful judgment and a strong interest in contributing to a close-knit, supportive team

The estimated base salary range for this position is 140,000 to 180,000 USD per year (or local equivalent). The base pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. This role will also be eligible for discretionary performance-based bonuses and a competitive benefits package.
