Hourly Wage: $65.00

Essential Job Functions:

(Duties listed are not intended to be all inclusive nor to limit duties that might reasonably be assigned.)

  • Policing HRT property working extra duty for HRT as a Norfolk police officer on "The Tide" or other areas in Norfolk every day or as needed.

  • Prevent crimes and security incidents at all HRT facilities.

  • Protects all HRT assets from all crimes and investigates and documents incidents daily in daily log.

  • Provide security and code enforcement to support the light rail system as per regional directive.

  • Provide ordinance enforcement duties, during the hours of operations, on a schedule approved by HRT Security Manager.

  • Officer will perform the following functions: Patrol within The Tide light rail vehicles and on station platforms, assist in inspect passengers for valid fare media in accordance with established procedures, issue citations for fare evasion and other ordinances, provide customer assistance to passengers, notify the HRT Central Control by radio (issued by HRT) of emergency incidents, etc.

  • Officer will provide random, mobile security patrols at the VMSF Park-and-Ride lots.

  • Officer will prepare reports of security incidentsandor dailylogand provide the reports to The HRT security police supervisor and or HRT Security Manager.

  • Officer will provide othersecurityservices as necessary, throughout the city of Norfolkthatmay include bus transfer station, HRT ferries or other areasthatrequire off duty officers.

  • Officer will have successfully completed a training course prescribed by HRT. Additional training will be provided by HRT to familiarize them with potential electrical hazards and train operation in the HRT system.

  • Assure that all security issues are properly documented in daily log.

  • Assists in any security related personal problems.

  • Enforces HRT parking policy at park and rides.

  • May provide Security at HRT Commission meetings.

  • Manage records created and received in compliance with the Hampton Roads Transit Records Management Policies and Procedures.

Required Knowledge, Abilities and Skills Essential to Job Functions:

  • Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing with staff and the public, to understand and follow standard operating procedures, to perform duties in a professional manner and appearance, to write and investigate required reports; to make independent and good judgment decisions within proper policy and procedures.

  • Knowledge and understanding of state, local and federal criminal statutes affecting police/security work of Hampton Roads Transit.

  • Ability to communicate with all personnel.

  • Ability to work under pressure and otherwise stressful situations.

  • Skill in miscellaneous computer applications (e. g., word processing, excel)

Required Software Knowledge and Skills Essential to Job Functions:

Proficiency in using computer systems and the listed software applications associated with performance of assigned work is essential. Basic problem-solving skills associated with software applications used is expected.

Software usage relevant to job duties will be evaluated.

Safety Responsibility:

Perform all job duties and responsibilities in a safe manner to protect one's self, fellow employees, and the public from injury or harm. Promote safety awareness and follow safety procedures and policies. Take an active part in reporting unsafe conditions and any hazards within the workplace to their Supervisor, Manager and/or the Safety Department.

Training and/or Education:

Current certification as a Norfolk police officer in the City of Norfolk

Required Experience:

Three years of security or law enforcement work as a sworn officer.

Licenses or Certificates

Possess a valid Driver's License issued from jurisdiction of residence. Acquire a Virginia Driver's License within 60 days after the date of hire (in instances when an out of state license is not the applicant's current state of residence).

Special Requirements:

Must be at least 21 years of age and be a US Citizen that has never been convicted of a felony or serious misdemeanor. This position is classified as non-essential personnel.
